No. 25 Florida State Squeaks Past Falcons

FULLERTON, California - No. 25 Florida State squeaked past the Bowling Green State University softball team this afternoon (March 14), 3-0. The first six innings were scoreless for both teams with only a combined total of three hits, but a late seventh inning rally by the Seminoles along with Falcon errors allowed Florida State to score three runs.
The first inning for both teams was a one, two, three inning. The Seminoles recorded the first hit of the game in the top of the second with a lead-off single through the left side. Hayley Wiemer and the Falcon defense were able to hold Florida State even after they put a base runner on second base in scoring position.
The Falcon offense also got started in the second inning as a Zada Lines smashed a one out line drive double to right center. Susan Sontag then stepped to the plate and reached base off of a throwing error by Florida State's short-stop, putting runners on first and third for the Falcons with one out. The Falcons weren't able to score before the Seminoles were able to end the inning with the score staying, 0-0.
With two outs in the top of the third inning the Seminoles were able to get runners scoring position on second a third on two Falcon errors but once again BG was able to get the third out to end the inning before the Seminoles could score.
The fourth and fifth innings were three-up, three-down innings for both teams as the game still remained scoreless.
In the top of the sixth inning the Seminoles recorded a one out single through the left side. After a stolen base and a ground out to third base Florida State had a runner on third with two outs. For the third time in the game the Falcons were able to end the inning before Florida State could score.
The Seminoles were able to keep the Falcons scoreless in the bottom of the sixth inning keeping the score, 0-0 heading into the seventh inning.
Florida State broke the scoreless game in the top of the seventh as three Falcon errors and single led to three runs for Seminoles.
With two outs in the bottom of the seventh Wiemer kept the Falcons alive with a single up the middle but the Falcons weren't able to score before the Seminoles got the third out and ended the inning as BG fell to Florida State, 3-0.
Leading the Falcon offense were Wiemer and Lines each going 1-for-3 against the Seminoles.
The Falcons will wrap-up their stay in Fullerton, California at the Judi Garman Classic tomorrow morning (March 15) against No. 9 Oklahoma at 11:00 a.m.
