Bowling Green, Ohio - At least four national television appearances and six home games, including one with Boise State inside Doyt Perry Stadium, highlight the Bowling Green State University football team's 2009 schedule. The Mid-American Conference office released the league schedule this afternoon (Mar. 26).
"As challenging as our non-conference schedule is, the MAC portion will be just as demanding," said BGSU head coach Dave Clawson. "To have the opportunity to showcase our program on national television four times is an honor and we hope our fans are as excited as we are to play six games inside Doyt Perry Stadium."
The Falcons' six home games include the home opener versus Troy, set for Sept. 3. BGSU will also play games inside `The Doyt' versus Boise State (Sept. 26), Ohio (Oct. 3), Central Michigan (Oct. 24), Akron (Nov. 20) and Toledo (Nov. 27). It is the first time BGSU has had six games at Doyt Perry Stadium since 2003.
The Boise State game has been tabbed as Band Day, while the contest with the Bobcats will be Homecoming Weekend and the game with Central Michigan will be Family Weekend/Hall of Fame.
Other road non-conference games include Missouri (Sept. 12) and Marshall (Sept. 19). The Falcons are 3-1 all-time versus Missouri, including a 20-13 win in Columbia in 2001. The last time BGSU played Marshall was in 2004, when the Thundering Herd was still a member of the MAC.
The Orange and Brown will play road MAC contests with Kent State (Oct. 10), Ball State (Oct. 17), Buffalo (Nov. 3) and Miami (Nov. 12).
The MAC Championship game will take place on Friday, Dec. 4, in Detroit, Mich., at Ford Field. The contest will be carried live on ESPN2.
The remaining kickoff times will be announced as the season draws closer.
