The Bowling Green State University football team held its annual spring game this afternoon (Apr. 25) with the offense outlasting the defense 66-47.
The scoring system, which was a bit unique, gave the offense one point for a first down, six points for a touchdown, three points for a field goal and one point for an extra point. The defense was given three points for a three-and-out, two points for any other defense stop (punt/turnover on downs), six points for a turnover and six points for a touchdown.
The defense got out to a roaring start, forcing five consecutive three-and-outs to take an early 15-0 lead.
The offense finally got on the board with a 68-yard drive with the help of two completions to Ray Hutson and a strong running game from senior Chris Bullock. Bullock finished the game with 88 yards on 22 carries, while Hutson had four catches for 65 yards.
The BGSU run game, which finished the afternoon with 221 yards on 56 carries, continued to roll later in the first quarter, capped by a 25-yard run from Steven Dunlap. Dunlap finished the day with 106 yards on 15 carries.
Hutson, who played a role on the Falcons first scoring drive, was once again making a play in the passing game, hauling in a 38-yard pass from Andrew Beam late in the second quarter.
Hutson, who seemed to catch every pass thrown his way, caught a fade pass from Aaron Pankratz late in the third quarter for his second touchdown of the afternoon. Pankratz would add a second touchdown pass in the fourth quarter, a 52-yard strike to Chris Scheidt.
Defensively, Andrew Johnson led all defenders with five tackles and two sacks. Ryan Crowe had the defenses lone turnover, an interception.
