The Bowling Green State University women's golf team has some work to do tomorrow to finish their fall schedule on a strong note. After the first of two rounds at the 2010 Mid-American Conference Preview, the Falcons stand tied for eighth in a field of 10 teams.
Playing at the Longaberger Golf Club, site of the 2011 MAC Championship tournament, the Orange and Brown face seven of their eight MAC opponents (Kent State is not playing) as well as two other schools from Ohio.
On the first day at the par-72, 6,173-yard course, BGSU carded a cumulative total of 338 for the day's 18 holes. The team is tied with Northern Illinois, and both teams are 11 shots ahead of Cleveland State. The Falcons trail seventh-place Xavier by 14 strokes. Toledo and Ball State are tied for fifth, 17 strokes ahead.
Leading the way individually for Bowling Green is Susy Grunden. Grunden compiled a score of 74 and finished three strokes behind Hanna Ek of Akron.
Senior co-captain Lauren Glew also placed in the top-half of the 60 player field for the day, posting a total of 83 to tie for 29th place.
Marisa Glew carded a score of 91, while Kelsey Benson and Amy Ruthenberg played rounds of 90 and 92, respectively.
Play in Nashport, Ohio resumes tomorrow at 8:00 a.m. with tee times taking place every nine minutes. Results and a complete recap will be posted after the conclusion of play.
