With the win, the Falcons improve to 22-6 overall and 12-2 in MAC play, and the Falcons have clinched a first-round bye for the MAC Tournament. The Bulls drop to 7-20 and 3-11, respectively.
BGSU went 12-of-24 from three-point range in the game, with Nurse hitting four treys and fellow senior Sarah Clapper a career-high three en route to a season-high nine points. Uhl had a pair of triples, and was 8-of-11 from the field on the night. She also led the Brown and Orange with eight rebounds as the Falcons held a 36-34 advantage on the boards.
Kourtney Brown led the Bulls with 20 points and a game-high 11 rebounds.
The Falcons led from wire to wire, scoring the first eight points of the game. Uhl scored five of those points, hitting a right-side floater to begin the scoring. Then, after Nurse connected from three-point land, Uhl drained a long-range shot off of Nurse's drive and dish, resulting in that 8-0 score and prompting the Bulls to take a timeout at the 18:20 mark.
The Bulls cut the lead in half on hoops by Jessica Fortman and Beth Christensen, but Nurse knocked down a jumper and junior Lauren Prochaska hit a layup for a 12-4 lead.
Again, the hosts battled back, getting to within 13-9 on Brittany Hedderson's three-pointer and prompting Falcon coach Curt Miller to take a timeout with 12:41 left in the opening half.
Nurse fed freshman Chrissy Steffen for a three-pointer and a 16-9 lead, but Brown beat the Falcons down the floor for an easy layup. But, senior Tara Breske found Uhl for another hoop and an 18-11 lead at the game's second media timeout. At that point, Uhl already had seven points, three rebounds and two steals in the game.
Sophomore Jessica Slagle followed her own shot, grabbing the miss and laying the ball back up and in for a three-point play. The free throw gave the visitors a 21-13 lead.
The Bulls got back to within five after three-straight Hedderson points, but the Falcons went on an 8-0 run. Breske hit a jumper, then stole the ball and fed Clapper for a triple at the 7:39 mark. Then Uhl, double-teamed under the basket, fired a pass to Slagle in the left corner. Slagle's three-point try was true, giving the Falcons a 29-16 advantage.
The lead increased to 15 points, at 32-17, after Nurse's three-pointer bounced around and in. But, the Bulls scored eight of the next 10 points, with Brown's layup cutting the Falcons' advantage to single digits, 34-25.
The Bulls kept chipping away at the BG lead, however, cutting the margin to seven points after four free throws by Brown in the final minute. The last two tosses came with under three seconds left. But, Pontius dribbled over midcourt and let a shot fly as the buzzer sounded. The shot, from at least 40 feet out, found nothing but net, giving the visitors a 45-35 lead at the intermission.
In the second half, Uhl scored BGSU's first five points, but the Bulls answered with a pair of layups at the other end. Junior Maggie Hennegan's three-point play, however, was followed by a driving layup from Nurse, giving the Falcons a 16-point lead, 55-39.
The teams traded hoops, with Abby Dowd's layup answered by Hennegan, and a Nurse three gave the visitors a 60-41 lead with 13:26 to go.
Nurse's trey was the Falcons' last hoop for nearly five minutes, and the hosts crept back to within nine points. But, Breske spotted Clapper at the left elbow, and the senior co-captain hit a triple to get the Falcons' lead back into double digits for good.
Less than a minute later, Prochaska found Clapper in the right corner, in front of the BG bench, and Clapper hit her third trey of the night, giving the Falcons a 70-55 lead with under eight minutes remaining. BG's lead never fell below 15 points the rest of the night.
Nurse and Uhl were the Falcons' only double-figure scorers, but Clapper, as mentioned, added a season-high nine points off the bench. Three players -- Prochaska, Breske and Slagle -- had six points each, while Pontius and Hennegan both scored five points.
For the Bulls, Fortman had 12 points and Hedderson 11.
The Falcons shot .431 from the field for the game, while the hosts had a .480 field-goal rate. BG, though, shot .500 from three-point range, hitting 12 treys to the Bulls' five.
BGSU had a 24-15 advantage in bench scoring and a 23-11 margin in points off turnovers.
The Falcons now return home for a Saturday (Feb. 27) game vs. Kent State University. That contest, which is the first half of a doubleheader at venerable Anderson Arena, will begin at noon.
