Former Falcon starting pitcher Brennan Smith will begin his professional career with the Connecticut Tigers.
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio -- After having been selected by the Detroit Tigers in the 2010 MLB First-Year Amateur Draft last week, Brennan Smith has signed with the club and is set to begin his professional career later this month.
After signing a contract to play in the Tiger's organization, Smith will begin his professional career with the Connecticut Tigers of the Class A, New York-Penn League (Norwich, Conn.). The Tigers begin their season on Friday, June 18 when they take to the road for an eight-game road trip to begin the 2010 season. Their first open will be the Tri-City ValleyCats (June 18-20) followed by a two-game series with the Vermont Lake Monsters (June 21-22) and will finish with a triplet of games against the Lowell Spinners (June 23-25) before returning to Dodd Stadium for the home opener on June 26 against Vermont.
Smith was selected in the 33rd round (1,003 overall) after finishing his junior season with the Falcons. He ended the 2010 campaign with a 6-4 overall mark and an 8.61 earned-run average in 16 starts. He was named the 2009 Mid-American Conference pitcher of the year in 2009 after finishing 8-4 with a 4.61 ERA.
