Women's Golf Finishes Fall Schedule at Zippy Invitational

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio -- The Bowling Green State University women's golf team wraps up their six-tournament fall schedule this week when they travel to Akron, Ohio for the fourth annual Zippy Invitational.
This year's tournament will be held at Akron's Rosemont Country Club on Monday and Tuesday (Oct. 17-18). The course will be a par 72, and players will face hole distances totaling 6,012 yards. The event is scheduled for 36 holes, with one round of 18 to be played on each day.
The Falcons are one of seven competing teams. Tournament host Akron, as well as Ohio University, join Bowling Green from the Mid-American Conference. Also competing are Cleveland State, Eastern Kentucky, Walsh University and Youngstown State.
All seven members of BGSU's roster are taking part in the event. The five-person team consists of Bailey Arnold, Paula DiFrancesco, Shelby Wilson, Amy Ruthenberg and Patricia Holt. Both Jen Blanchard and Kelsey Benson will play as individuals.
Play will begin on both days with a 10:00 a.m. shotgun start. The Falcons' team will tee off from holes seven through 11. Blanchard will begin on the 15th hole, while Benson begins the first round from the 16th.
Bowling Green has competed in each of the three previous editions of the Zippy Invitational.
In 2008, the team placed seventh after shooting 987 (326-329-332). The following year, the Falcons tied for ninth out of 15 teams with a 991 (343-319-329). In last year's tournament, BGSU shot 996 (334-328-334) to place ninth again.
DiFrancesco, the team's lone senior, has played in the event twice (2008, 2010), while Arnold and Ruthenberg each played in 2010.
Arnold enters the event with a 76.91 average through 11 rounds. That mark leads the team and ranks second in the MAC. Two other Falcons, DiFrancesco and Wilson, have per-round averages under 80.
