With the win, the Bobcats improve to 7-8-1 overall and 4-3-1 in MAC action. Ohio moves into first place in the MAC's East Division with 13 points. The Falcons drop to 5-12-0 and 2-6-0, respectively.
The 'Cats got on the board with 7:20 remaining in the first half. Veronica Rock received a pass from Toye Famodu, took a touch and fired a shot that gave her team the lead for good. Famodu and Cat Rogers were credited with assists on the play.
The home team doubled the lead in the 73rd minute of the match, as Famodu scored off of an assist from Natalie Bechtel.
"Goals not only change games, but they also win games," said BGSU head coach Andy Richards. "Bottom line - our team is simply not scoring enough goals, and we need to rectify that very quickly.
"Our cause wasn't helped by the fact that we had a perfectly good goal disallowed and another stonewall penalty that was refused, for the second game in a row, with the game in the balance both times.
"That being said, our focus has to be on scoring goals, and as we enter the last three games of the season, we will focus on scoring goals that will give us the wins we desperately need and desperately deserve."
The Bobcats had a 15-10 margin in total shot attempts on Sunday, and Ohio had a narrow 6-5 edge in shots on goal. OU 'keeper Nicole Amari made five saves to earn her first collegiate shutout. For the Falcons, redshirt junior Becca Ison had four saves in her complete-match effort.
The Falcons return to Northwest Ohio for the final two home matches of the 2011 season. BGSU will face Western Michigan University in Friday (Oct. 21) action at Cochrane Field, with kickoff scheduled for 6:00 p.m. Then, the Brown and Orange will host Northern Illinois University on Sunday (Oct. 23), in a 1:00 p.m. start.
