QUICK HITS
• The Falcons are 0-2 on the young season, but BGSU showed a great deal of improvement from game one to game two ... after a 31-point loss at Dayton to open the regular season (38-69, Nov. 11), BGSU lost by just one point, 54-53, to nationally-ranked Purdue in Thursday's (Nov. 17) home opener ... the Boilermakers scored with 13.5 seconds remaining, and a last-second three-point try by the Falcons bounced off the iron.
• Head coach Curt Miller and his staff return nine letterwinners – but just one starter – from last year's 28-5 team ... junior Chrissy Steffen, the lone returning starter, was chosen to the Preseason All-MAC Team.
• Not only is Steffen the lone returning starter, she was the only player on the BGSU roster to have started even one collegiate game prior to the 2011-12 season opener at UD.
• Four players made their first starts against the Flyers, as sophomore Jillian Halfhill, redshirt junior Danielle Havel, redshirt soph Alexis Rogers and senior Jessica Slagle all were in the lineup for the first time ... that quartet again joined Steffen in the starting lineup for Thursday's Purdue game.
• BGSU's 28-win season last year came after the Falcons lost the season opener on the road ... that loss came to Sunday's opponent, Evansville ... the Purple Aces, coming off a four-win season in 2009-10, raced out to a 16-0 lead in the first game of 2010-11 en route to a 63-62 win in Evansville (Nov. 12, 2010).
• The Falcons bounced back after that loss, winning the MAC's East Division title and going on to capture the MAC Tournament crown for the fifth time in seven seasons ... BG has advanced to national postseason play in each of those seven years, with five NCAA Championships appearances and two trips to the WNIT.
• BGSU is 0-2 for the first time in three years ... the 2008-09 team also dropped a pair of games – on the road against Temple and Valparaiso – to begin the season ... that club responded with 25-straight wins, and BG ended the '08-09 season with a 29-5 overall record.
• Thursday night's Purdue game was preceded by a ring and banner ceremony ... five of last year's seniors, plus both graduated team managers, were on hand for the festivities as the players and staff received their rings for winning the MAC's East Division and postseason tournament crowns.
• The 2010-11 seniors in attendance included Chelsea (Albert) Groenewegen, Maggie Hennegan, Tracy Pontius, Jen Uhl and Kelly Zuercher, as well as managers Kyle Jefferson and Chris Simler ... Lauren Prochaska was unable to make it back to BG (she is playing professionally in Poland), but was represented by her parents.
• Two Falcon freshmen scored their first collegiate points in the Purdue game ... Logan Pastor had her own personal 7-0 run in the first half, scoring all seven of her points during that span ... Jasmine Matthews had eight points, including a four-point play in the second half.
