Bowling Green, Ohio - Approximately 150 people honored Denise Van De Walle Saturday during a retirement reception at the Stroh Center. Van De Walle, the winningest volleyball coach in Mid-American Conference history, has announced her retirement after 29 years as head coach at Bowling Green.
Bowling Green State University Director of Athletics Greg Christopher, Mid-American Conference Commissioner Jon Steinbrecher, former Central Michigan volleyball coach Marcy Weston, former BGSU player Stephanie Swiger, and Van De Walle all spoke during the event. A five-minute video interview with Van De Walle was also shown on the Stroh Center video board.
In April, Van De Walle announced that she would retire following the 2011 season. With a career record of 527-378, she is the first MAC volleyball coach to win 500 career matches and closed out her tenure as one of the 30 winningest active coaches in the country.
