The BGSU-Detroit match will begin at 4:00 p.m. at the Wimbledon Racquet Club in St. Clair Shores, Mich.
Dean and the Falcons have a dual-match record of 7-3 this season to date. Last weekend, BGSU split a pair of contests in Colorado Springs, Colo., losing a 5-2 decision at Air Force, but responding by beating Colorado State by the same 5-2 score.
Senior co-captain Christine Chiricosta, coming off a 4-0 weekend in Colorado, holds down the top singles flight for the Falcons, and has teamed with sophomore Maddy Eccleston all season long at the number-one doubles flight. Christine Chiricosta, already the winningest player in program history, has moved into a tie for first place on the career singles wins list. She has 161 combined career victories, including 81 singles and 80 doubles wins.
Chiricosta has tied Stefanie Menoff (2006-09) at the top of the singles wins list. In doubles, she ranks second in program history, trailing school-record holder Jenny Cheung (84 wins from 1995-98) by four wins on that list.
This season, Chiricosta has 17 singles wins, ranking second on the team. She trails only her sister, freshman Nikki Chiricosta. Nikki has a 19-5 singles mark this season, including a team-best 7-3 record in dual matches.
Overall this year, Nikki Chiricosta has 34 wins, while Christine Chiricosta has 33. Eccleston (32), sophomore Mary Hill (31) and freshman Emily Reuland (28) are not far behind.
Detroit enters the weekend with a record of 0-7 in dual matches. The Titans play a Friday (Feb. 25) contest at Marquette before returning home to face the Falcons.
Most recently, UDM suffered a narrow 4-3 road loss against Dayton. the team's six other dual matches included four against Mid-American Conference teams - Eastern Michigan, Miami, Toledo and Western Michigan - as well as matches vs. schools that BGSU has also faced.
Those common opponents include Michigan State and IPFW. Both BGSU and Detroit suffered 7-0 road losses to MSU. BG downed IPFW, 5-2, in Fort Wayne, while UDM lost at home to the Mastodons, 6-1.
The Falcons hold a 6-1 lead over Detroit in the all-time series between the teams. BGSU downed UDM, 5-2, in last season's meeting at the Perrysburg Tennis Center (Feb. 12, 2010). Detroit's lone series win came in the Falcons' last trip to the Motor City. Two years ago (Feb. 22, 2009), BGSU - down to five healthy players - forfeited at the sixth singles and third doubles flights in a 4-3 loss.
The Falcons and Titans certainly are familiar to one another, as both teams competed in the same tournament on three occasions in the fall of 2010. UDM came to the BGSU Invitational in mid-September, and the teams each went to East Lansing for the Spartan Invitational (Sept. 24-26) and to Toledo for the Rocket Invite (Oct. 8-9).
Last year, the Titans finished with a 10-12 overall record and a 6-2 Horizon League mark. UDM advanced to the title match of the HL Tournament before succumbing.
Sunday's match is BGSU's final action for three weeks. Dean and the Falcons will make a trip to Youngstown State for a March 19 match, before opening Mid-American Conference play at Buffalo (March 25) and Akron (March 26) the following weekend.
