The Bowling Green State University gymnastics team finished fifth at the 2011 Mid-American Conference Championships, hosted by Central Michigan. The Falcons, who finished the meet with a team score of 192.900, posted their second-highest mark of the season.
As mentioned before, the Falcons' 192.900 was the second-highest score of the season, falling only short of the 193.800 posted in a tri-meet with Kentucky and George Washington three weeks ago. The fifth-place finish is also two spots higher than last season's seventh-place finish for the Orange and Brown.
Bowling Green began the meet on the always dangerous balance beam, but passed the test, scoring a 47.650, their second-highest mark of 2011. Megan Harrington and Kasey Fillmore led the way, each scoring a 9.675.
In rotation two, BGSU competed on the floor exercise, an event they have been impressive in the last few weeks and did not disappoint in the season finale. The Falcons scored a 48.825 on floor, their second-best team score of the season. Sophomore Danielle Wishart scored a 9.850 to finish fourth among 42 competitors and junior Dawn Christman was not far off the pace, posting a 9.825. Christman won the floor exercise in 2010.
On vault BGSU scored a 48.225 with the help of Wishart's 9.825 and Christman's 9.700. Wishart finished fourth overall in the competition.
With a very solid meet nearly in the books the Orange and Brown found itself with just the uneven bars remaining and handled the pressure well, scoring a 48.200, their second-highest bars' score of the season. Five Falcons scored at least a 9.500 and Amber Brewer (9.750), Fillmore (9.700) and Monica Eaton (9.700) all posting a 9.700 or higher.
Fillmore finished 10th in the all-around with a total of 38.475 and Christman was 12th with a score of 37.925.
That will close BGSU's 2011 season. Individuals may have qualified for Regionals next week, but that has yet to be announced. Stay tuned to bgsufalcons.com for any updates.
