Falcons Compete At Cleveland State Invitational This Week

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio -- All seven members of the Bowling Green State University women's golf roster will compete for the first time this season when the Falcons travel to Hinckley, Ohio this week for the 2011 Cleveland State Invitational.
Bowling Green will be one of 11 teams competing on Monday and Tuesday (Sept. 26-27) at the Pine Hills Golf Club. The Falcons are the only Mid-American Conference team in the field. Other teams include host Cleveland State, Youngstown State, Dayton, Oakland, Robert Morris, Niagara and St. Francis (Pa.). Teams from outside NCAA Division I ranks include Malone, Walsh and Western Ontario
The tournament consists of 36 holes (18 on each day). Play begins with a 9:00 a.m. shotgun start on both days.
Bailey Arnold leads the five-member Falcon team. She has been BGSU's top finisher in each of the team's first two tournaments, including her victory at the Redbird Invitational two weeks ago. Last week, she shot a career-best 149 (77-72) over 36 holes at the Great Smokies Intercollegiate.
Freshman Shelby Wilson is seeded second. She has an average of 76.4 through five rounds this season and has been BGSU's second-ranked player in both tournaments. In North Carolina, Wilson carded rounds of 77 and 76.
Paula DiFrancesco tied Wilson's 153 in North Carolina last week and set a new career-low for an individual round in the process. Her first-round 74 on Monday (Sept. 19) broke her previous low score of 75.
Team captain Amy Ruthenberg and Kelsey Benson round out this week's team of five. Benson will be competing for the first time this season.
Patricia Holt and Jen Blanchard will compete this week as individuals. Holt has a low rounhd of 80 thus far in her first season as a Falcon. Like Benson, Blanchard will see her first action of the season this week.
