COMPLETE RESULTS
The Bowling Green State University gymnastics team posted its highest road score this season, but dropped a 195.300-192.800 decision to fellow Mid-American Conference member Western Michigan on Sunday afternoon. The dual meet was held inside University Hall in Kalamazoo, Mich.
Bowling Green posted a season-high on vault and had a solid performance on floor, but suffered setbacks on both bars and beam in the loss. Individually Gina Locigno finished second in the all-around with a career-best 38.775, while sophomore Megan Harrington was third, scoring 37.925.
The Falcons opened the meet by posting a 47.500 on bars, led by Locigno, who finished seventh with a 9.675. The Broncos posted a 48.775 on vault in rotation one to take a commanding lead, a lead the Falcons would make vanish shortly.
In rotation two the Falcons exploded for a 49.025 on vault, led by a trio of Falcons tying for first-place. Sophomore Lacey Swords, junior Danielle Wishart and senior Dawn Christman all scored 9.850 to win the event. Freshman Jamilah Ali was fifth, with “only” a 9.800.
BGSU used the momentum from vault as they transferred over to the floor exercise, for rotation three. In that third rotation the Orange and Brown bounced to a 48.650 with the help of Megan Valentini (9.775), Christman (9.775) and Wishart (9.750) to finish in a tie for sixth and eighth overall.
Ali scored a 9.825 on balance beam, capturing tops on the event. Locigno made it a pair of freshman leading the way on beam, finishing in a tie for third with a 9.700.
Bowling Green returns to action next Sunday (Feb. 5) versus Maryland and North Carolina in College Park, Mary. The tri-meet is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
