BGSU STATS | BGSU MEDIA GUIDE | CAREER STATS OF 2011-12 FALCONS
QUICK HITS
• The Falcons hold a commanding 46-2 lead in the all-time series with Akron ... BGSU has won 17 consecutive series meetings, and the Falcons are a perfect 24-0 ... but, a number of recent BG-UA games have been very closely contested.
• In last season's meeting in Northwest Ohio, the Falcons posted a 90-72 victory at Anderson Arena (Jan. 12, 2011) ... despite shooting nearly 59 percent from the field, however, BG's lead was in single digits until approximately eight minutes remained.
• Then, in the return match, the Falcons pulled out a 47-45 victory as Lauren Prochaska hit a three-pointer with just 0.2 seconds remaining (Feb. 22, 2011) ... that game featured 14 ties and 15 lead changes, and the Zips held the Falcons to just a 23.8% field-goal rate on the night.
• The Zips were one of just two teams to score 70 points against the Falcons in the last year-plus, with 72 points in the teams' final meeting at Anderson ... BGSU has allowed over 70 points just twice in the last 47 games, dating to the start of the 2010-11 campaign ... BG is 2-0 when allowing over 70 points during that time – an 80-72 win over Central Michigan in the 2011 MAC Tournament semifinals was the other such instance.
• At the other end of the court, the Falcons are 9-0 this year when scoring 70 or more points themselves ... in fact, BG is 28-0 since the start of last season, and 73-1 over the last three-and-a-half seasons, when scoring at least 70 points.
• BG hit the magical 70-point mark in Wednesday's (Jan. 4) MAC opener, a 76-57 win over Kent State at the Stroh Center ... junior Chrissy Steffen and redshirt sophomore Alexis Rogers each had a double-double to help the Falcons get past the Golden Flashes.
• Steffen had a career-high scoring output for the second-straight game, with 27 points vs. the Flashes ... the junior scored 25 points in BGSU's win at Colorado State last weekend (Dec. 31) ... Steffen, the reigning MAC East Division Player of the Week, has scored 67 points over the last three games.
• In addition to points, Steffen also had a career-high rebounding night, with 10 boards vs. Kent State ... the double-double was the first of her collegiate career.
• Rogers had her second double-double, with 16 points and a game-high 11 boards ... BGSU had a 52-28 rebounding advantage, and the Falcons scored 28 second-chance points to the Flashes' five.
• BG had a whopping 26 offensive rebounds, nearly matching KSU's team rebounding total (again, 28), in Wednesday's win ... the Flashes had 24 defensive rebounds, meaning the Falcons rebounded more of their misses than KSU did.
• BGSU's 52-28 rebounding margin vs. Kent State marked the ninth-straight game that the Falcons have held the advantage on the boards ... BG had been outrebounded in each of the season's first five games ... the Falcons are 8-1 this season and 156-14 in the Miller Era when outrebounding the opponent.
• Coincidentally (or perhaps not), the Falcons' nine-game rebounding streak came after freshman Kaila Hulls was unofficially named the team's 'rebounding coach' ... Hulls, who is sitting out the season due to injury, has had much more success in the 'rebounding coach' department than her predecessor, assistant coach Kevin Eckert.
• Miller and Akron head coach Jodi Kest were on the same staff for a season nearly two decades ago ... the two coached together during the 1992-93 campaign at Cleveland State.
• Kest spent four years as the head coach at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi prior to taking the UA job ... Miller and Kest met as head coaches for the first time in the 2003-04 season, as TAMU-CC posted a 68-59 win in Corpus Christi, in the championship game of the Islander Classic (Nov. 29, 2003) ... Saturday will mark the 13th time that Miller and Kest have met in their head-coaching careers, with all but that first meeting coming since Kest assumed the helm in Akron.
• The Falcons are the winningest team in MAC history, and BGSU is looking to be the first MAC women's hoops program to post 350 conference victories ... currently, BG is 349-145 in MAC regular-season games, for a winning percentage of 70.6% – the most wins and highest percentage of any conference team.
• After going with the same starting lineup for the first 10 games of the year, Miller made a change for the Madonna game on Dec. 21 ... freshman Jasmine Matthews joined senior Jessica Slagle, redshirt junior Danielle Havel, Steffen and Rogers in the starting five vs. the Crusaders ... Matthews now has started each of the last four games for the Brown and Orange.
• The Falcons, after beginning the season with a pair of losses, have won 11 of the last 12 games ... the lone loss in that time came by two points (49-47) at Creighton on Dec. 18.
