BGSU NOTES & STATS - PDF
QUICK HITS
• Saturday's game officially begins the Jennifer Roos Era at BGSU ... Roos was hired as the Falcons' head coach on the evening of April 16, and was introduced at a press conference the following day.
• The Falcons scored early and often in the team's lone exhibition, rolling along to a 105-39 win over Slippery Rock on Saturday (Nov. 3) at the Stroh Center ... senior Allison Papenfuss scored 29 points in just 24 minutes, pacing four double-figure scorers for the Brown and Orange ... Papenfuss also had eight rebounds, three blocked shots and a pair of steals ... BG led by a 55-14 score at the half, with first-half runs of 16-0 and 19-0.
• Roos, of course, has been on the BGSU staff for over a decade, having been Curt Miller's first hire when he took the job in 2001 ... Roos spent three seasons as an assistant coach, and served as Miller's associate head coach for the last eight years ... BGSU captured Mid-American Conference divisional titles in each of those eight years, winning the MAC regular-season title outright in seven of those seasons.
• BGSU has gone 258-92 overall and 135-41 since Roos arrived at BG ... those numbers represent a success rate of nearly 74 percent overall and a winning percentage of almost 77% in conference action.
• Over the last nine years, the numbers are even more staggering ... the Falcons are 237-57 (80.6%) overall, 124-20 (86.1%) in regular-season play and 145-24 (85.7%) in all games vs. league foes during that time ... BGSU has won more than 20 games in each of the last nine seasons, a MAC record.
• Although Saturday's Madonna game marks the official head-coaching debut for Roos, it is not her first regular-season contest in charge of the Falcons ... when Miller suffered a mild stroke in January of 2012, Roos assumed interim head-coaching duties and led BGSU to a 2-0 record, with wins on the road against Central Michigan and at home vs. Northern Illinois prior to Miller's return to the bench in early February.
• Roos welcomes back nine letterwinners, including four starters, from a year ago ... the Brown and Orange went 24-7 overall and 14-2 in the MAC in 2011-12 ... two of those starters, senior Chrissy Steffen and redshirt junior Alexis Rogers, were selected to the Preseason All-MAC Team in late October ... Steffen led the Falcons in scoring last season, with 13.2 points per game, and also had 5.0 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.8 steals per game ... she paced BG with 22 double-digit scoring games, including a team-high six games of 20 points or more.
• Rogers averaged 12.3 points and a team-leading 8.7 rebounds per game, and was named to the All-MAC First Team in her first playing season with the Falcons (Steffen earned All-MAC Second-Team honors last year) ... Rogers also was a WBCA Coaches' All-America Team honorable-mention selection in '11-12.
• Rogers was a 2012-13 Preseason All-MAC First-Team selection by the College Sports Madness web site, while Steffen was a preseason all-league third-team choice.
• In addition to Rogers and Steffen, fifth-year senior Danielle Havel returns after starting all 31 games a year ago ... Havel averaged 6.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 1.6 steals and a team-high 0.7 blocked shots ... sophomore Jasmine Matthews is back after making 21 starts as a freshman ... Matthews, who averaged 7.0 points per game a year ago, hit 51 three-point field goals, the second-highest total on the team last winter ... she missed the Slippery Rock game due to injury.
• Junior Jillian Halfhill returns after playing in all 31 games last year, starting the first 10 ... she averaged 4.3 points per game a year ago ... the other returnees include seniors Papenfuss and Simone Eli, junior Jill Stein and sophomore Deborah Hoekstra.
• Four newcomers join the roster this season ... one of those four, Erica Donovan, will sit out the season after transferring from North Carolina State Univ. ... she played in all 35 games for the Wolfpack a year ago, averaging 4.9 points and 2.5 rebounds per game ... Donovan, who graduated from John Jay H.S. in Northside, Texas, attended Notre Dame Academy in Toledo as a freshman.
• Another transfer joins the Falcons, as Katrina Salinas comes to BGSU after two years at Central Arizona College ... Salinas averaged 10.3 points and 4.1 assists last year, and helped the Vaqueras to a 20-0 league record and a 10th consecutive appearance in the NJCAA national tournament.
• Freshmen Bailey Cairnduff (Morley, Mich.) and Miriam Justinger (Sylvania, Ohio) join the Falcons this season after each earned first-team all-state honors last year ... Cairnduff finished her career at Morley Stanwood H.S. as the school's all-time leading scorer, helping the Mohawks to state titles in both volleyball and basketball last year ... Justinger helped Northview H.S. to a 21-2 record last season, averaging 19.6 points per game to lead the Northern Lakes League in scoring.
• Roos has three newcomers on the coaching staff, although one of those first-year assistants is a familiar face to Falcon fans, to say the least ... Ali Mann, one of the greatest players in program history, returns to the program after spending the 2011-12 season as an assistant coach at Colgate ... her coaching experience also includes over two years as an assistant at IPFW.
• Jesse Fleming was on the staff at Stony Brook last season, after spending six years on the staff at his alma mater, Saint Bonaventure ... he was associate head coach during his final season (2010-11) with the Bonnies.
• Emily London joined the staff after spending the previous five years at Samford University, the first four as a player ... she is the school's all-time scoring leader, and also set program records for games started, three-point field goals made and free throws made ... London worked in the SU athletics department last season.
• The Falcons will look to continue a long-standing tradition of homecourt success ... last year, in the first season in the Stroh Center, BGSU tied the school record for home wins in a season, going 14-2 ... the only losses came by one point apiece, to nationally-ranked Purdue in the home opener, and against VCU in the first round of the WNIT.
FALCONS PICKED TO PLACE SECOND IN MAC EAST IN 2012-13
The Falcons were picked to finish second in the MAC's East Division in 2012-13, according to the league's preseason poll ... the poll was released on Oct. 31 by the conference office ... BGSU was picked to finish behind Miami and ahead of – in order – Akron, Ohio, Kent State and Buffalo ... the Falcons have won eight consecutive MAC divisional titles, winning the West Division in 2005 and capturing the East in each of the last seven years ... in the 2010-11 season, BG did not have the MAC's best regular-season record for the first time since 2004, as Toledo had a 14-2 mark to the Falcons' 13-3 league ledger ... BG recaptured the MAC's overall regular-season crown last season, for the seventh time in eight years ... UT was picked to win both the West Division and MAC Tournament crowns in 2013.

ROGERS, STEFFEN NAMED TO PRESEASON ALL-MAC TEAM
Senior Chrissy Steffen and redshirt junior Alexis Rogers were named to the Preseason All-MAC Team ... Steffen earned the honor for the second-straight season ... they were joined by Kirsten Olowinski and Courtney Osborn of Miami, along with Akron's Rachel Tecca, on the East Division team ... the West Division Preseason All-MAC squad included Andola Dortch, Yolanda Richardson and Naama Shafir of Toledo, Central Michigan's Crystal Bradford and Eastern Michigan's Natachia Watkins.
THE CAPTAINS
Fifth-year senior Danielle Havel, senior Chrissy Steffen and junior Jill Stein are the tri-captains of the 2012-13 Falcons ... Havel and Steffen each are captains for the second consecutive year ... the three were selected in a vote of team members as well as the coaching staff.
TOP 12 IN THE LAST FIVE
The NCAA has compiled its annual lists of the winningest Division-I teams over the last five years, and Bowling Green ranks in the top 12 on both lists ... BGSU has won a total of 134 games, and the Falcons have won nearly 81 percent of the time over the last five seasons ... it's worth noting that the last five years do not include the Falcons' 31 wins en route to the NCAA Championships Round of 16, which came six years ago, in 2006-07 ... the complete lists of winningest teams in the last five years can be found in the PDF version of these notes, just a click away at the top of the page.
HOME IS (USUALLY) WHERE THE WINS ARE
• The Falcons enjoyed an incredible home-court advantage at venerable Anderson Arena over the years ... but, BGSU appears to be beginning a new tradition of success at the Stroh Center ... the Falcons went 14-2 in the first year of the new building ... after losing by just one point to nationally-ranked Purdue in the home opener, BGSU reeled off 14-straight wins at the Stroh, before losing another one-point game to VCU in the WNIT.
• The 14-2 mark at the new building comes after the Falcons went 333-116 (74.2%) in Anderson Arena during the team's tenure there ... the record was even better during MAC play, as the Falcons had a league mark of 192-54 (78.0%) at "The House That Roars" through the years.
HOME COOKIN'
Last winter, once again, the Falcons tied the school record for home wins in a season ... BGSU went 14-2 at the Stroh Center, matching the program record for home victories that was set in the 2008-09 season and matched in '10-11 ... the 2008-09 Falcons went 14-1 at oh-so-venerable Anderson Arena, with the only loss coming to Indiana in the WNIT ... two years ago, BGSU also went 14-1 at 'The House That Roars' ... to follow are the top home records in program annals ...
MOST WINS AT HOME, SEASON
Record Year Notes
14-1 2010-11 Only setback was by one point to The School Up North
14-1 2008-09 Lone loss came to Indiana in third round of WNIT

13-1 1992-93 Lone home loss came to Florida in NCAA Tournament play
WE MUST PROTECT THIS HOUSE (LIKE WE PROTECTED THE OLD ONE)
BGSU ended the Anderson Arena Era on a pretty good run ... the Falcons won 46 of the final 48 games played in "The House That Roars" ... BGSU saw a 23-game home winning streak snapped with a one-point loss to Toledo last January 26, then won the final four games in the building by an average of 18.5 points per game ... the Falcons' only other loss in the final 48 contests in the old barn came to Indiana in the third round of the 2009 WNIT ... BG had won 19-straight home games before losing to IU, then starting the 23-game home streak ... 41 of the Falcons' 46 wins in that overall span came by double digits.
ANDERSON + STROH = SUCCESS
BG has enjoyed a great deal of success in home games over the last few years, as evidenced by the previous notes ... when combining the Anderson Arena Era with the inaugural year of the Stroh Center, the Falcons have won 60 of the last 64 home games ... 53 of those 60 victories, including 12 of last year's 14 home wins, have come by double-digit margins.
A QUICK LOOK AT THE CRUSADERS
Madonna coach Carl Graves has an experienced squad in 2012-13 ... Graves has five seniors among 11 returning letterwinners from last season ... the Crusaders were picked to finish third in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference in '12-13, and two of those seniors – Michelle Lindsey and Kaylee McGrath – were selected to the Preseason All-WHAC Team ... MU has dropped two exhibitions, falling at Northern Michigan, 58-53, on Oct. 28, and losing by 11 points, 75-64, at Eastern Michigan last Friday (Nov. 2) ... another senior, Shantelle Herring, led the Crusaders with 23 points at EMU, including four three-point field goals ... last season, the Crusaders finished with an overall record of 12-17, including an 8-10 mark in the WHAC ... Madonna advanced to the semifinals of the league tourney.
THE SERIES
BGSU leads Madonna, 1-0, in the all-time series between the schools ... the lone prior meeting came last December, as the Falcons posted a 91-41 win at the Stroh Center (Dec. 21, 2011) ... nine different players scored at least six points apiece for the Brown and Orange ... BGSU dished out 25 assists, including 15 assists on 16 second-half baskets ... the Falcons grabbed 60 rebounds in the win, the team's highest total in over seven years.
NON-CONFERENCE SUCCESS
Last season, the Falcons finished the non-conference schedule with 10 wins, marking the program's sixth consecutive year with a double-digit win total in non-league play ... BG won a total of 12 games during the non-league portion of the schedule two years ago ... that 2010-11 BGSU club broke the school – as well as the MAC – record for non-conference wins in a season ... the Falcons had never posted a double-digit non-league win total prior to 2006-07 before beginning the current streak ... BG's six-season streak is a MAC record by far (by five seasons, to be exact).
NON-CONFERENCE SUCCESS II
The Falcons, as mentioned, have posted a double-digit win total in non-conference play in six consecutive seasons, a MAC record ... no other MAC team has ever had back-to-back seasons with double-digit non-league victory totals ... in fact, no other MAC program has had more than two total years, consecutive or non-consecutive, in league history ... the complete list ...
