QUICK HITS
• The Falcons used a fast-shooting start to the second half to pull away from visiting Butler Wednesday night (Dec. 5) at the Stroh Center ... BGSU, leading by four points at the half, made 6-of-7 shots to begin the second period en route to a 67-47 win ... the Falcons shot 55.6% from the floor in that second half, and had a season-high field-goal percentage of 45.8% for the night.
• BGSU has held each of the last two opponents under 50 points ... the Falcons defeated Colorado State, 71-49, on Saturday (Dec. 1) before downing Butler ... the BG defense forced 37 turnovers in the last two games, and allowed the Rams and Bulldogs to shoot a combined 34.3% from the field.
• For the second-straight game, head coach Jennifer Roos got great production from her bench players ... against Colorado State, the starters combined for 35 points, with the players off the bench scoring 36 ... in the Butler game, the bench again outscored the starters by a single point ... the BG reserves outscored the BU bench players, 34-7, while the Falcon starters combined for 33 points in the victory.
• Northwestern is the second Big Ten Conference opponent the Falcons will face this season ... BGSU suffered a 59-45 loss on the road against then-#14/14 Purdue roughly three weeks ago (Nov. 19).
• Many members of the Falcon travel party will recognize a familiar face when the team arrives in Evanston this weekend ... Janna Blais, deputy director of athletics at Northwestern, joined NU in February of 2010 after over a decade as the Senior Woman Administrator at BGSU ... among other duties with the Falcons, Blais was the sport coordinator for the women's basketball program.
• Northwestern's Mid-American Conference ties do not end there ... in addition to Blais, NU director of athletics Jim Phillips was in the MAC, serving as AD at Northern Illinois for four years prior to coming to Evanston ... additionally, NU women's basketball coach Joe McKeown is a Kent State alumnus.
• Sophomore Jasmine Matthews will not be too far from home this weekend ... Matthews is a native of Matteson, Ill., and attended Marian Catholic H.S.
• The Falcons got balanced scoring on Wednesday night, as senior Danielle Havel and freshman Miriam Justinger each scored 12 points, while Matthews and senior Allison Papenfuss had 10 apiece and junior Jill Stein nine.
• A total of 11 players have seen action for the Falcons this season to date ... no fewer than nine of those players have posted a double-digit scoring total at least once ... that list includes Havel, Justinger, Matthews, Papenfuss, Stein, senior Chrissy Steffen, juniors Jillian Halfhill and Alexis Rogers and freshman Bailey Cairnduff.
• BGSU seems to be getting point production from a different player or players each time out, with seven different Falcons leading the team in scoring in as many games ... Halfhill, Havel, Matthews, Papenfuss and Steffen (not necessarily in that order) each paced the Falcons in the scoring column once over the first five games ... Rogers shared team scoring honors with Steffen in the Temple game (Nov. 28), and Justinger led the way vs. Colorado State ... the Butler game, as mentioned, saw Justinger and Havel tie for the BG scoring lead.
• Havel had a solid game vs. the Bulldogs, to say the least ... she posted her second double-double of the season, with 12 points and 10 rebounds ... Havel was just two away from matching her career-best total in each category ... the fifth-year senior also dished out a career-high five assists vs. Butler ... she tied for the team lead in points, and paced the Falcons in both rebounds and assists.
• Justinger averaged 3.5 points per game over her first six collegiate contests, but has 12.0 ppg in the last two games ... Stein entered the Colorado State game with a career average of 1.8 ppg in 62 games ... she has averaged 10.0 ppg in the last two wins, with a career-high 11 points vs. CSU and nine more points vs. Butler.
• Stein hit the first three-point field goal of her career in the Colorado State contest, and the junior made it two triples in as many games with another long-range shot vs. Butler ... she is a perfect 2-for-2 from three-point range this season, and is now 2-of-5 for her career.
• Of the 11 Falcons who have seen action this season, nine have made at least one three-point field goal.
• The Brown and Orange enjoyed a 42-31 rebounding advantage vs. Butler, marking the second-straight game that BG had a double-digit margin in that category ... the Falcons had a 48-31 rebounding edge vs. Colorado State.
ROOS = SUCCESS
• BGSU began the regular-season schedule with a 68-57 win over Madonna, the first official victory of the Jennifer Roos Era ... Roos was hired as the Falcons' head coach on April 16, 2012.
• Roos, of course, has been on the BGSU staff for over a decade, having been Curt Miller's first hire when he took the job in 2001 ... Roos spent three seasons as an assistant coach, and served as Miller's associate head coach for the last eight years ... BGSU captured Mid-American Conference divisional titles in each of those eight years, winning the MAC regular-season title outright in seven of those seasons.
• BGSU has gone 263-95 overall and 135-41 in MAC play since Roos arrived at BG ... those numbers represent a success rate of nearly 74 percent overall and a winning percentage of almost 77% in conference action.
• Over the last nine-plus years, the numbers are even more staggering ... the Falcons are 242-60 (80.1%) overall, 124-20 (86.1%) in MAC regular-season play and 145-24 (85.7%) in all games vs. league foes during that time ... BGSU has won more than 20 games in each of the last nine seasons, a MAC record.
• Although the Madonna game marked the 'official' head-coaching debut for Roos, as well as her first 'official' win, it was not her first regular-season contest in charge of the Falcons ... when Miller suffered a mild stroke in January of 2012, Roos assumed interim head-coaching duties and led BGSU to a 2-0 record, with wins on the road against Central Michigan and at home vs. Northern Illinois prior to Miller's return to the bench in early February.

• The Falcons are shooting .369 from the field, and BG is .314 from three-point range and .687 from the free-throw line through the first eight games ... the opponents have shot .400 from the floor, .280 from beyond the arc and .694 from the stripe.
HAVEL LEADS IN MANY WAYS
Tri-captain Danielle Havel has led the Falcons in numerous ways this season ... in addition to her off-court leadership role, the fifth-year senior also has led the Brown and Orange on the court ... she ranks third in scoring, with 9.0 points per game, but Havel leads the Falcons in nearly every other statistical category ... the Carmel, Ind., native paces BGSU in rebounding (6.6 rpg), assists (2.5 apg), steals (1.3 spg), field-goal percentage (.490), three-point field-goal pct. THE SERIES
BGSU trails Northwestern, 2-1, in the all-time series between the schools ... Sunday's meeting will be the teams' first in nearly a quarter-century ... the Falcons and Wildcats met three times in a four-year span in the 1980s ... NU downed the Brown and Orange, 68-62, in the Wildcats' own tournament on Dec. 6, 1985 ... two years later, the 'Cats came to Anderson Arena and posted an 80-62 victory over the Falcons (Nov. 28, 1987) ... the next season, coach Fran Voll's club returned the favor with a double-digit road victory, 81-71 (Nov. 26, 1988) ... Voll was the Falcons' head coach in all three of those meetings with NU.
FALCONS VS. McKEOWN
Although the Falcons have not faced Northwestern in just over 24 years, BGSU has played a Joe McKeown-coached team on one occasion ... McKeown, the long-time mentor at George Washington, led the Colonials to an 89-61 dismantling of BGSU at a tournament hosted by Seton Hall (Nov. 27, 1998) ... GW, ranked 22nd in the nation, opened up a 32-9 lead and led by a 48-25 halftime score en route to the win.
UP NEXT
The Northwestern game is the Falcons' first of two road contests in a three-game span ... after a break for fall semester exams, BGSU will host Wyoming on Sunday, Dec. 16, with tipoff set for 1:00 p.m. at the Stroh Center ... then, the Falcons will play at Massachusetts on Dec. 19 ... following the UMass game and a break for the holidays, the Falcons will begin a season-long five-game homestand against Dayton on Dec. 30 at the Stroh.
