Falcons Finish 11th at MAC Championships
February 25, 2012 | Women's Track and Field
COMPLETE RSULTS
The Bowling Green State University track and field team finished with 14 points for an 11th place finish at the 2012 Mid-American Conference Indoor Championships, hosted by the University of Akron.
"Overall we had a positive second day," said head coach Lou Snelling. "The team results for the meet were expected, but our long term goals are obviously much higher. I'm excited to think about the progress this program will make over the next several years."
After a disappointing day one in the 200-meters, Jeanette Pettigrew shined on Saturday afternoon, finishing second with a time of 7.48 seconds. The junior teamed with Felica Jefferson, Allorian Horne and Allison Weimer in the 4x400 meter relay race, helping the Falcons to a seventh-place finish with a time of 3:49.73, eight seconds faster than any other time this season.
"I'm proud of Jeanette, she bounced back from a tough first day to perform well in the 60 meters and on the 4x400," said Snelling. "Lesser athletes would have folded. Coach Williams challenged the girls to step-up in the 4x400 and they answered the call by running a season best by eight seconds. Allison ran a great anchor leg with the fastest split."
Ashley Harris secured three points for the Orange and Brown in the shot put with a mark of 47-02.50.
Stay tuned to BGSUFalcons.com for the Falcons' next meet. It is still undetermined if members of the track & field team will travel to Notre Dame to compete in the Alex Wilson Invitational to qualify for regionals.
The Falcons' outdoor season begins on Mar. 17 with a trip to Cincinnati, Ohio, as they will compete in the UC Early Bird Relays.
