Falcons Set To Compete In Russ Matt Invitational

The Bowling Green State University baseball team will travel to Winter Haven, Fla. to compete in the Russ Matt Invitational for their annual spring break trip. The Falcons will play eight games in eight days, against seven different opponents.
The Starting Lineup
1. The Falcons are 11-12-1 all-time against the 2012 Russ Matt Invitational competition.
2. The Falcons enter the Russ Matt Invitational with a 1-5 record, after defeating Dayton on Tuesday for their first win of the season. Last season, the Falcons were 1-5 entering Russ Matt Invitational play, and went 3-3.
3. Sophomore T.J. Losby has started off the season by recording at least one hit in every game thus far. He is batting .556 (10-for-18) on the season.
4. Freshman Jason Link has been superb in his three outings thus far. He has not allowed an earned run, and only allowed four hits in 5.1 innings pitched.
5. Four players have appeared in all six games thus far, while nobody has started all six. T.J. Losby, Patrick Lancaster, Tyler Wynn, and Jeremy Shay are the four Falcons to have appeared in every contest thus far in 2012.
6. The Falcons have scored first in every game but one this season, but have only turned that into one win. The only time the Falcons have trailed first in a contest this season was in Murfreesboro, Tenn. against Saint Louis in a 6-1 loss.
7. After fielding .972 in 2011, the Falcons have struggled to pick up the ball to begin 2012. The Falcons have committed 15 errors over the course of the last three ballgames.
8. The Falcons did not allow an earned run in Tuesday's ballgame at Dayton. Both runs that the Flyers scored were unearned.
9. The Falcons recorded a season-high 15 hits on Tuesday at Dayton. To date, Bowling Green has had three games with double digit hits.
The Opponents
Mount St. Mary's—Saturday, March 3, 2012—2 pm—Chain O'Lakes Park—Winter Haven, Fla.
The Mount has a record of 1-4 (as of Wednesday morning), but will complete their series with St. Bonaventure before squaring off against the Falcons. Mount St. Mary's was swept last weekend by Saint Louis University, whom the Falcons were defeated by on February 18 at Middle Tennessee State University by a score of 6-1. They are coached by Scott Thomson, who is in his 14th season. In 2011, Mount St. Mary's completed the season at 16-35.

Northeastern Huskies (DH)—Sunday, March 4, 2012—3 pm—Lake Myrtle Stadium—Auburndale, Fla.
Northeastern enters the Russ Matt Invitational with a 1-2 record. They will play the Boston Red Sox in a contest on Saturday afternoon, before squaring off with the Falcons in a Sunday doubleheader. The Huskies went 18-33 in 2011, finishing 9th in Colonial Athletic Association play. They are coached by Neil McPhee.

Georgetown Hoyas—Monday, March 5, 2012—3 pm—Chain O'Lakes Park—Winter Haven, Fla.
The Hoyas have gotten off to a strong start in 2012, and will enter Russ Matt play with a 6-2 record. They are coached by Pete Wilk. Last season the Hoyas struggled, going 23-33 overall, and just 5-21 in Big East play.

Pennsylvania Quakers—Tuesday, March 6, 2012—11 am—Chain O'Lakes Park—Winter Haven, Fla.
The Pennsylvania Quakers will enter 2012 Russ Matt Invitational play with a 0-0 record. All-time, the Falcons are 1-1 against the Quakers. Last season, Pennsylvania, who is coached by John Cole, went 19-21 with a 10-10 record.

Yale Bulldogs—Thursday, March 8, 2012—3 pm—Chain O'Lakes Park—Winter Haven, Fla.
Yale will also come into the Russ Matt Invitational with a 0-0 record on the season. The Falcons have never been defeated by the Bulldogs, with an all-time mark of 2-0-1. The Bulldogs went 23-19 in 2011 with an 11-9 Ivy League mark. Yale is coached by John Stuper.

Bradley Braves—Friday, March 9, 2012—10 am—Lake Myrtle Stadium—Auburndale, Fla.
The Bradley Braves come into the Russ Matt Invitational with a .500 record at 3-3. Led by head coach Elvis Dominguez, Bradley completed 2011 at 22-32 overall, 4-17 in Mountain Valley Conference play. All-time, the Falcons are 2-1 against the Braves.

Maine Black Bears—Saturday, March 10, 2012—10 am—Chain O'Lakes Park—Winter Haven, Fla.
Maine got off to a strong start in 2012, defeating perennial power Clemson on opening day, 6-5. Since then, they have come back down to earth, bringing a 2-2 mark into Russ Matt Invitational. The Black Bears are coached by Steve Trimper. The Falcons have never beaten Maine, with an 0-2 all-time series mark. They went 33-24 in 2011, with an 18-6 mark in the North Atlantic Conference.
