Softball Takes On IPFW In Midweek Doubleheader

The Bowling Green State University softball team finished up the Cherry Blossom Classic with a 4-1 record, their best tournament record so far this season. The Falcons defeated host George Mason to open the weekend, dropping the Patriots 5-1 on Friday. Bowling Green defeated Cornell 7-0 in the second day of the tournament, before suffering the team's only loss of the weekend to Albany (2-0). The Falcons closed out the Cherry Blossom Classic with a sweep on the final day, recording back-to-back shutouts against Albany (1-0) and George Mason (1-0).
The Falcons begin their non-tournament schedule Wednesday, facing off against IPFW.

Jamie Kertes, Bowling Green, Fr., P, Carnegie, Pa. / Bishop Canevin
Freshman Jamie Kertes (Carnegie, Pa.) easily had her best weekend of the season, going 2-0 in the Cherry Blossom Classic. Kertes pitched two complete games in both of her starts, allowing zero runs and only seven hits in 15.2 innings of work. Kertes appeared in four games during the tournament, recording eight strikeouts, while not allowing a single walk. Kertes helped Bowling Green to a 4-1 record over the weekend, their best tournament record of the season. The Falcons are now 14-8 overall, their best record since 2007, when the Falcons went 16-6 to start the year. Kertes' wins included a 7-0 win over Cornell, and a 1-0 win over Albany.
Katie Yoho, Bowling Green, So., OF, Grove City, Ohio / Grove City
Sophomore Katie Yoho (Grove City, Ohio) had another solid weekend for the Falcons, leading the team in batting average (.500), hits (7), total bases (10) and triples (1) over a five-game span at the Cherry Blossom Classic. Yoho helped Bowling Green to a 4-1 record over the weekend, their best tournament record of the season.

- The Falcons are now 14-8 overall, their best record since 2007, when the Falcons went 16-6 to start the year.
- Bowling Green has already passes last season's win total. The Falcons were 12-32 last season.
- The Falcons have won 14 games this season, marking the first time since 2008 that Bowling Green has recorded 14 wins or more in a season. The Falcons finished 2008 with a 19-24 record.
- Sophomore Katie Yoho leads the Falcons in home runs (7), batting average (.397), total bases (55), triples (2), RBI (23), hits (27) and slugging percentage (.809). Yoho's seven home runs is tied for the most in the MAC.
- The Falcons have already posted six shutouts this season, crushing last year's total (1). The Falcons only shutout last year came against Detroit (April. 20) in a 14-0 blowout.
- Freshmen Paris Imholz leads the team in ERA (1.58), opponents batting average (.223), wins (7) and innings pitched (71.0). Freshman Jamie Kertes leads Bowling Green in strikeouts (40) and walks allowed (6). All three of the Falcons' pitchers have winning percentages over .500.
- Bowling Green has been fantastic in the first inning, scoring 21 out of their runs in the opening frame this season. The Falcons have scored 94 runs this season, while allowing just 65 against.
- Bowling Green ranks third in the MAC in ERA (2.19), trailing only Miami (.88) and Ball State (1.87).
- Junior Hanna Fulk's 21 runs scored ranks third in the MAC.
- Bowling Green ranks second in the conference in home runs (18), trailing only Ball State (25).

- The Falcons are 3-3 lifetime against IPFW, losing both contests to the Mastodons last season.
- IPFW is 19-5 this season, and is currently on a two-game winning streak. The Mastodons' 5-1 record in the Summit League puts them in second place in the standings.

- IPFW's 1.29 team ERA ranks first in the Summit League.
