FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- The Bowling Green State University softball team split a doubleheader with IPFW Wednesday afternoon, dropping the first game 3-1, before defeating the Mastodons 3-0 in the second contest.

The Falcons came out strong in the opening frame of the first game, scoring the contests first run on two hits. Junior Hannah Fulk singled to right field in the opening at-bat, before moving over to third on a sacrifice bunt and a groundout to the pitcher. Arney came to the plate, and singled up the third base side, bringing Fulk home for the Falcons only run of the game.
Bowling Green held IPFW scoreless until the bottom of the sixth inning, when the Mastodons scored three runs on three hits. Freshman pitcher Paris Imholz relieved Kertes in the inning, getting the final two outs of the frame with three runners left on base.
The Falcons were able to muster a hit in the top of the seventh, but were unable to close the scoring gap, giving IPFW the 3-1 win.
Bowling Green rebounded in the second contest, shutting out the Mastodons 3-0. Arney had another strong game for the Falcons, going 2-for-3 with a home run and an RBI. Fulk led Bowling Green with two RBI, while also drawing two walks. Imholz and Kertes split the game, with Kertes getting credit for the win after allowing just one hit in 3.1 innings of work.
The Falcons finally got on the board in the fifth inning, putting up two runs on one hit. Two fielding errors to start the inning put two base runners on for Fulk, who brought home the two runs on a single to center field.
Bowling Green added an insurance run in the sixth inning, thanks to a solo home run from Arney to lead off the frame. Arney's fifth home run of the season gave the Falcons the 3-0 lead, securing the Bowling Green victory.
