Falcons Finish Tied For Fifth at MAC Championships; Ali Named MAC Freshman of the Year

COMPLETE RESULTS
The Bowling Green State University gymnastics team scored a 193.150 to finish is a tie for fifth at the MAC Championships, hosted by Northern Illinois. Central Michigan won the meet with a team score of 195.675.
The fifth-place finish was BGSU's best since the 2008-09 Falcons came in fourth.
Also of note, Jamilah Ali was named the MAC Freshman of the Year, an award voted on by the conference coaches. Ali is just the third Falcon to earn the award, joining Marny Oestreng (1999) and Heather Ferguson (1995).
The Falcons opened the meet with a bang, scoring 48.650 on floor. Danielle Wishart finished third after scoring a career-best 9.875, while Ali was not far off, finishing with a 9.850 to capture a fifth-place finish.
BGSU moved over to vault in rotation two and scored a solid 48.325. Wishart nearly won a MAC crown on the event, scoring a 9.875 to finish second and Ali was fourth with a 9.850. Lacey Swords finished 14th of 42 competitors with a 9.800. Also of note was Dawn Christman. She has been battling an injury for the second half of the year, but gave it a go at MACs and was able to record a 9.250.
On beam the Falcons scored a season-best 48.450, led by Megan Harrington and Chelsea Anderson. Harrington finished fifth with a 9.775, a season-best, while Anderson finished 10th, recording a 9.700, also a season-best.
The downfall of the meet was bars. The Falcons had been averaging 48.500 over the past four meets on the event, but could manage just a 47.675 on Saturday afternoon. BGSU's top performance came from freshman Amanda Lievendag, who finished 23rd with a 9.625.
BGSU had a pair of performers in the all-around, with Ali finishing sixth (38.825) and Harrington ninth (38.650). Harrington's score was a career-best.
