Provo, Utah – Paige Penrod had 11 kills and 13 digs but No. 21 BYU remained undefeated by beating Bowling Green State University 25-22, 25-14, 25-18.
BYU had 13.0 team blocks and hit .256 for the match, but the Falcons battled throughout. Bowling Green did record six blocks and five aces, as well as outdigging the Cougars.
“I am very proud of our team for the effort that we showed today,” head coach Danijela Tomic said. “The score doesn't show how many good things we did playing against one of the best teams in the nation right now. We had more kills and more digs than BYU, but had way too many hitting errors. We will build on all the positive things that we saw in this match and continue to improve our hitting efficency and serve receive.”
BYU led by as many as seven points in the first set but the Falcons rallied. Trailing 23-18, Bowling Green got a Laura Avila kill, a Cassie Berning ace and a Leah Shaw spike to close within two. After a BYU timeout, the Cougars closed out the set by getting a service error and then a kill for the 25-22 victory.
Bowling Green hung close early in the second set, tying the score at 10-10, but the Cougars used a 6-1 run and pulled away for the 25-14 win. BYU took an early lead in the third set and were never really challenged down the stretch.

BYU improves to 8-0 with the win, while Bowling Green falls to 2-5. The Falcons will face Utah in the team's final match of the BYU Nike Invitational this evening at 7 p.m. EST.
