BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University women's golf team will look to wrap up their 2013 fall season on a good note, playing in the 2013 Rocket Classic. The 54-hole tournament will be held next Monday and Tuesday (Oct. 14-15), as the Falcons will tee-off at the Catawba Island Club in Port Clinton, Ohio.
Â
Eighth year head coach Stephanie Young will showcase a lineup of Bailey Arnold, Lily Bartell, Patricia Holt, Hannah Lewis and Shelby Wilson. Young will also have Mikayla Baer and Kelsey Benson play as individuals in the tournament.
Â
The Falcons has broken numerous records this fall, both team and individually. The Orange and Brown broke the 54-hole team mark by a whopping 21 strokes (903) at the Redbird Invitational (Sept. 8-9).
Â
Bowling Green also broke a new 36-hole mark of 594 at the Great Smokies Intercollegiate (Sept. 16-17), beating the previous-best by six strokes. In fact, the Falcons also set a new 18-hole score, shooting an impressive 288 on the final round of the Great Smokies Intercollegiate.
Â
All of that carried over for Bowling Green's first victory of the 2013-14 campaign. The Falcons won the Cleveland State Invitational three weeks ago, shooting a team score of 608 (300-308) at Pine Hills Golf Club in Hinckley, Ohio. It marked the second time in as many years the Orange and Brown won the event.
Â
Through four tournaments, the Falcons have seen six players average in the 70's. Lily Bartell (75.11), Shelby Wilson (77.29), Bailey Arnold (77.44), Patricia Holt (77.67), Hannah Lewis (77.89) and Mikayla Baer (79.56) have all helped Bowling Green to a team average of 305.22 strokes per round. The strong showing on the links has led to four top-10 finishes.
Â
The tournament will begin at 9:00 a.m. on both days with a shotgun start.Â
