Falcons Finish Rocket Classic Second Overall

Port Clinton, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University women's golf team finished second at the 2013 Rocket Classic after completing the final round on Tuesday (Oct. 15). The Falcons finished the 54-hole tournament, which was held at Catawba Island Club in Port Clinton, Ohio, with a team score of 926 (319-303-304). Toledo University, who hosted the event, won the tournament with a two-day total of 891.
The Orange and Brown sent the same seven competitors out on the links for the final round that competed in the first two rounds. Juniors Shelby Wilson and Patricia Holt paced Bowling Green with identical 54-hole cards of 232.
Wilson, who fired a 79 and 75 (+10) over the first day, came back with a 78 (+6) over her final day, while Holt finished her final round with a 77 (+5). Each finished tied for 10th overall in a field that featured 79 total players.
Sophomores Lily Bartell and Hannah Lewis also competed for the Falcons over the week. Bartell fired a 233 (79-75-79), placing her inside the top 15, tied for 14th overall. Meanwhile, Lewis saved her best round for the final day, firing a 76 (+4) and a two-day total of 235. The total placed Lewis 19th overall, giving head coach Stephanie Young four players inside the top 20.
Senior Bailey Arnold rounded out the five Falcons' that could count their scores for the tournament. Arnold had the best round of the day for Bowling Green, shooting an impressive 1-over 73.
Also competing in the field was senior Kelsey Benson and freshman Mikayla Baer. Playing as individuals, Benson totaled a 244 (82-78-84) over the two days, placing her tied for 43rd place. Baer stayed consistent throughout her final two rounds, firing identical 80's for a 54-hole total of 247.
The tournament ended the Falcons fall season. Bowling Green will begin their spring season on Feb. 3-4 at the Women's Mid-American Match-Play Challenge.
