October 24, 2013 | Baseball
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio—The Bowling Green State University baseball team completed fall practice on Wednesday, as the annual Orange & Brown World Series concluded with a winner-take-all game five. The Falcons, who are coming off a MAC Tournament Championship in 2013, partook in six weeks of fall practice culminating with the intrasquad series. The Brown came out on top in the game five, coming from behind to win the final two games of the series.
In game one, the Brown won 3-2, as redshirt freshman Tyler Greiner played the role of hero. The Orange jumped out to a quick 2-0 start in the first inning, as senior Jeremy Shay would record an RBI and score a run. Senior Brandon Howard would get the Brown on the board in the bottom of the second, as he scored T.J. Losby. In the bottom of the fourth, still trailing 2-1, Greiner would knock a game-tying RBI triple with two outs to score Jake Thomas. Greiner would score on a wild pitch to the next batter, and the Brown would hang on for the 3-2 victory.
The second game would feature extra innings, as freshman Johnny Crawford would score Andrew Kubuski on a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh. The Orange team would win game two 5-4, evening the series at one game apiece. Nick Glanzman and Greg Basalyga doubled for the Orange in the game, while Addison Rospert tripled. Tyler Anderson was the winning pitcher.
The Orange team would move to the verge of clinching the series with a 4-3 win on Monday afternoon, as Crawford, the freshman southpaw, would get the win. Rospert and Crawford, the first two batters of the game, would score as the Orange team jumped out to another quick 2-0 lead in the first. Trailing 3-2 into the last inning, the Orange team would score two to complete the come-from-behind victory.
With their backs against the wall the Brown team would respond in Tuesday's game four. Losby would single home junior Jesse Rait in the first. Howard and Greiner would add the final three runs, as sophomore Devin Daugherty was awarded the win. The Brown would add some insurance late to hang on for the 4-2 victory, forcing a fifth, and final, game.
Wednesday's game five would be no contest, as the Brown jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first four innings and cruised from there. Senior Ethan McKenney shut down the Orange team on the afternoon, as he picked up the win on the mound.
The Falcons will begin the 2014 season in just 113 days, as they travel to Belmont University for a three-game series beginning February 14. Be sure to follow @WEAREBGBaseball on Twitter for up-to-the-minute news on Bowling Green Baseball.
