Falcons Ready To Tee Off At The Preview

The Falcons are coming off a victory at the Cleveland State Invitational.

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University women's golf team will play their fourth tournament of the year, heading to Fishers, Ind. to play in The Preview on Monday and Tuesday (Oct. 7-8). The tournament is set to play a 36-hole format with 18 holes on each day, which a shotgun start will be enforced beginning at 9:30 a.m. on both days.
Eighth year head coach Stephanie Young saw three Falcons' place in the top six, including junior Shelby Wilson, who won medalist honors with a two-day total of 3-over-par 149 (74-75). Teammate Lily Bartell, who is a sophomore from Hilton Head Island, N.C., was one shot behind Wilson, posting a 4-over 150 (75-75). Â Patricia Holt carded a 152 (75-77), placing her sixth overall in a field of seven teams.
In BGSU's first three tournaments of the 2013-14 fall season, the team has played some of their best golf in recent history. The Falcons' broke the 54-hole team mark by 21 strokes (903) at the Redbird Invitational, their best score since the 2010 North Texas Fall Classic.Â
The Orange and Brown also set new records three weeks ago, playing at the Waynesville Inn – Golf Resort & Spa as the team shot a 36-hole mark of 594, beating the previous-best by six strokes. The Falcons' also shot an impressive 288 on the final day that broke a new 18-hole score in BGSU history as well.
On the year, the Falcons' are averaging 300.71 strokes in seven rounds of action, with 288 being their lowest-round at the Great Smokies Intercollegiate tournament earlier this year. Individually, Bartell is currently sitting in second overall in the Mid-American Conference, averaging 73.43 in seven rounds of action, which also included a new career-low 69.
For the week, Coach Young will feature a lineup of Wilson, Bartell, Holt, Hannah Lewis and Bailey Arnold. Freshman Mikayla Baer will also make the trip, playing as an individual.
The field will feature 16 total teams, including MAC foes Ball State, Western Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Toledo, Akron, Ohio and Northern Illinois. The remainder of the field will feature Western Illinois, Oakland, Valparaiso, IUPUI, Cleveland State, IPFW, Eastern Kentucky and Marshall will all join Bowling Green over the two-day event.
