Comiskey, Scheps earn league honors
Comiskey, a native of Grantville, Pa. (Northern Lebanon H.S.), ended his career with a bang, scoring a total of four goals as BG posted a win and a tie in two games last week. Comiskey had the first two-goal game of his career in last Tuesday's (Nov. 5) 8-0 win over IPFW. Then, he had the second such game in his career – and his second in as many games – in the Falcons' 3-3, double-overtime draw at West Virginia Friday night (Nov. 8).
Against IPFW, Comiskey led all players and shattered his previous career bests with nine total shots and five shots on goal. He scored the Falcons' second goal of the game in the 18th minute, then recorded BG's fourth goal in the 58th minute. At WVU, Comiskey twice gave the Falcons the lead, scoring the first goal of the night with just 2:54 gone, then giving the Brown and Orange a 2-1 lead at the 22:45 mark.
Comiskey ended the season as the Falcons' scoring leader, with team-best totals of six goals and 13 points. In MAC matches, he led the Falcons in both categories (three goals and six points) despite missing one of the team's league matches. Comiskey finished his BG career with totals of 12 goals, four assists and 28 points in 67 matches. He scored two goals in each of his first three seasons before matching his previous career total with the six goals this year.
In the classroom, Comiskey has a cumulative grade-point average of 3.70 as an early childhood education major.
Scheps, a native of Waddinxveen, Netherlands (Coornhert), won two individual events and was part of a relay victory in Bowling Green's 150-130 loss at Oakland Friday (Nov. 8). Scheps won the 100 butterfly in a time of 57.69 seconds, and also posted a victory in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:07.37.
Additionally, she anchored the 400 freestyle relay team that posted a season-best time of 3:29.69 to win that event and post the second-best time in the MAC this year.
In the classroom, Scheps is an individualized business major and has a perfect 4.00 cumulative GPA.
The MAC Scholar-Athlete-of-the-Week award is presented to one male and one female student-athlete each week. To be eligible, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.00 or higher, and must have performed well during the previous week's competition. The winners are selected by the conference's faculty athletics representatives.
Comiskey and the BGSU men's soccer team saw the season come to an end with an overall record of 6-7-6. The Falcons went 2-2-2 in MAC play to tie for fourth place in the conference standings. Scheps and Falcon swimmers are next in action on Nov. 22, when BGSU will be in Evanston, Ill., for the TYR Invite, hosted by Northwestern University.
