April 16, 2013 | Baseball
Release From Mid-American Conference
CLEVELAND, Ohio - Nick Glanzman, a freshman member of the Bowling Green State University baseball team, was named Mid-American Conference East Division Player of the Week on Tuesday morning. The award is the first of his career.
Glanzman led the Falcons to a 4-0 week, their first four-game win streak since May of 2010. He batted .500 (6-12) on the week, with an on-base percentage of .600. Glanzman came through in the clutch numerous times during the week, scoring seven runs, driving in four runs, drawing three walks, knocking his first two career extra-base hits, and going a perfect 2-for-2 on stolen base attempts.
In Tuesday's win over Ball State, Glanzman went 2-for-3 with a run scored. In the weekend sweep - BGSU's first MAC sweep since May of 2010 - of Toledo, Glanzman was unstoppable with the game on the line. In Friday's 5-0 win, he went 2-for-2 with two doubles, two RBI, two runs scored, and a walk. In Saturday's 14-1 trouncing of the arch-rival Rockets, Glanzman scored three runs, knocked in two RBI, and had two walks. In Sunday, leading just 4-3 as the game entered the 9th, Glanzman delivered a lead off single, eventually coming around to score a critical insurance run in the inning.
Glanzman's weekly award marks the second time that a Falcon player has been honored this season. Junior T.J. Losby was previously awarded for his efforts during the opening weekend of the season at Western Kentucky.
Other weekly winners announced on Tuesday by the Mid-American Conference office were Tyler Skulina (Kent State - East Pitcher of the Week), Neal Jacobs (Central Michigan - West Player of the Week), Scott Baker (Ball State - West Co-Pitcher of the Week), and Eli Anderson (Northern Illinois - West Co-Pitcher of the Week).
Bowling Green will look to continue their four-game winning streak with a midweek game at Notre Dame on Wednesday. First pitch of that contest will take place at 5:35 pm.
