Brooke Pleger Named MAC Field Athlete Of The Week
April 02, 2013 | Women's Track and Field
Cleveland, Ohio – Bowling Green sophomore Brooke Pleger was named Mid-American Conference Field Athlete of the Week, as announced by the conference today. Pleger is the first Bowling Green student-athlete to be honored with one of the MAC's weekly track awards in almost five years.
Pleger set new meet, facility and school records with a hammer throw mark of 212-feet-6 at the Raleigh Relays, hosted by North Carolina State. The toss was more than 20 feet further than Bowling Green's school record and broke a meet record that had stood since 1999. In fact, the throw ranks her third in the country in the event and first in the East Region.
Pleger's MAC Athlete of the Week award is the first under second-year head coach Lou Snelling and the first time a BGSU track and field athlete has been recognized for the award since Whitney Hartman earned the MAC Field Athlete of the Week award on April 14, 2008. Interestingly, it was Hartman's hammer throw record of 191-7 that Pleger broke this week.
BGSU will be back in action this weekend as the Falcons travel to Akron for a meet beginning Friday at 3:30 p.m. Action picks up again Saturday at 10 a.m.
