Keefe Courts are located on Stadium Drive, between Steller Field (baseball) and the Meserve Softball Field. Some BGSU Invitational matches will be held at Bowling Green High School. Play begins at 9:00 a.m. each day.
Head coach Penny Dean and the Falcons will host a tourney field that includes Cincinnati, Detroit, Duquesne, IPFW and Toledo. Team scores will not be kept, but individual champions will be crowned at each flight. Tentative plans call for five singles flights (plus a round-robin bracket of the remaining singles players) and three doubles flights.
Dean's seven-player roster includes two seniors, two sophomores and a trio of freshmen. The senior class consists of Nikki Chiricosta (Avon Lake, Ohio) and Emily Reuland (Oswego, Ill.), while Katie Brozovich (Clarkston, Mich.) and Drew Fillis (Toledo, Ohio) comprise the sophomore class. Hannah Drayton, Harley Hutchison and Brittany Plaszewski are in their first year at BGSU.
In last year's BGSU Invitational, the Falcons captured a total of four titles in a rain-shortened event. Reuland and Chiricosta won championships at the first and second singles flights, respectively, and that duo combined to win a crown at the top doubles flight. On the weekend, the Brown and Orange combined for an overall record of 21-7, including an 11-6 singles record and a stellar 10-1 doubles mark.
Reuland has a perfect 18-0 record at the BGSU Invitational in her collegiate career, with three singles and three doubles crowns in as many years. Chiricosta is 16-2 in the BGSU Invite in her career. She won a doubles title as a freshman, then captured the top-flight singles title as a sophomore before winning singles and doubles championships in 2012.
The BGSU Invitational is the first of five total events on the Falcons' fall schedule. BGSU will venture to Oxford for the Miami Invitational next weekend (Sept. 28-29), before heading to Ann Arbor, Mich., for the ITA Midwest Regional Championships. That event, hosted by Michigan, runs from Oct. 10-15. Cincinnati's Bearcat Invitational (Nov. 1-3) and the Western Michigan Super Challenge (Nov. 8-10) round out BG's fall slate, and the 'spring' schedule will commence with a dual match vs. Youngstown State on Jan. 26, 2014, at the Perrysburg Tennis Center.
