Falcons Complete First-Day Action at Miami Invitational

No team scores are being kept at the two-day, four-team tournament, but the tourney is utilizing a hidden dual format. On Saturday, the Falcons faced the RedHawks in doubles, and BGSU played UofL and XU in singles action.
Plaszewski was a perfect 3-0 on the day, posting two singles and one doubles victory. While each of her six teammates played a doubles match vs. Miami, Plaszewski teamed up with an MU player, Chloe Heerden, to post an 8-4 doubles win over a Xavier duo.
Then, in singles, Plaszewski won a pair of matches in straight sets. She defeated a pair of Xavier foes, downing Andrea Wolf in two closely-contested sets, and beating Allyson Westling in a pair of sets that were anything but. The BG freshman did not lose a single game in the latter match, capturing each set by a 6-0 score.
Three of Plaszewski's teammates split their singles matches on Saturday, with that group including seniors Nikki Chiricosta and Emily Reuland and sophomore Katie Brozovich. Chiricosta was the lone Falcon to win a singles match vs. Louisville, defeating Cassie Pough in straight sets. Reuland's win came vs. XU's Daniella Patton, as the BG senior dropped only three total games in that match. Brozovich outlasted the Musketeers' Sydney Liggens in the first-set tiebreaker, then went on to a 6-3 second-set win to close out the match.
Freshman Harley Hutchison extended UofL's Chloe Willetts to three sets before succumbing. Hutchison captured a 6-2 opening set, before Willetts battled back for the win.
The doubles team of Chiricosta and Brozovich downed their Miami opponents by an 8-4 score on Saturday. Reuland and Hutchison competed together in doubles, while sophomore Drew Fillis teamed up with Hannah Drayton.
The Miami Invitational concludes on Sunday (Sept. 29). The tournament's final day consists of one singles round and two doubles rounds.
