Falcons Name Three Team Captains
September 04, 2013 | Women's Cross Country, Women's Track and Field
Bowling Green, Ohio – Bowling Green State University Track and Field Coach Lou Snelling has announced that Andrea Alt, Jeanette Pettigrew and Brooke Pleger have been named captains for the 2013-14 season. Snelling, in his third year leading the BGSU Track and Field program, as well as the cross country teams, has a strong nucleus returning from a team that showed improvement in the Mid-American Conference a year ago.
"We are excited to have these three athletes be our first set of captains at Bowling Green," Snelling said. "The selections came from the team itself which says a lot about what their peers think of them. I am beyond confident Jeanette, Brooke, and Andrea have the commitment and leadership skills to do a great job in their new role."
Alt is a redshirt sophomore from Perrysburg, Ohio (Perrysburg HS) and was one of the team's top distance runners. She was named Academic All-MAC honorable mention for both the indoor and outdoor seasons and placed seventh in the 3000 steeplechase at the MAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships in just her first year of competition. Alt also competed in the 5000, placing 10th at the MAC Championships.
Pettigrew is a redshirt senior from Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio (Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy) who has been a threat to win a MAC Championship in sprint events since she started at Bowling Green. As a sophomore, she placed second in the 60 at the MAC Indoor Championships and finished third in both the 100 and 200 at the MAC Outdoor Championships. She was second team All-MAC during the indoor season in 2012 and was Academic All-MAC honorable mention for the 2013 outdoor season, finishing sixth in the 100 at the MAC Outdoor Championships.
Pleger is a redshirt junior from Saline, Mich. (Saline HS) who is coming off of one of the best individual seasons in program history. She was named the MAC's Most Outstanding Field Athlete after winning the hammer throw at the MAC Outdoor Championships and setting a new meet record in the process. She won the NCAA East Regional preliminary and then placed seventh at the NCAA Championships, earning First Team All-American status.
