Bowling Green, Ohio – Having posted three straight top-three team finishes over the month of September, the Bowling Green State University women's golf team will look to post a fourth consecutive top-three team showing this week at the Bearcat Classic hosted by the University of Cincinnati at the TPC River's Bend Golf Course in Maineville, Ohio on Oct. 6-7.
Each team will have six competitors, instead of the normal five players, per team with the top-four scores for each day counting towards the team score. The tournament field includes Bowling Green, Southern Miss, Xavier, UAB, Toledo, Ohio, Murray State, Morehead State, Memphis, Eastern Kentucky, Dayton, Bradley, Wofford, Ball State and two teams from host Cincinnati.
Bowling Green head coach Stephanie Young will send out the lineup of Patricia Holt, Shelby Wilson, Hannah Lewis, Fran Rodriguez, Mikayla Baer and Lily Bartell on Monday and Tuesday.
Once again the top of the lineup will include both Holt and Wilson, as the seniors have paced the Falcons so far this fall season. Holt, who has been in the top-two among the BGSU golfers in each her three tournaments this fall, is second on the team with a 77.43 stroke average on the year and has carded a low round 75 two times this fall. Wilson is right on the heels of Holt, as the fellow upperclassman has a stroke average of 77.86 on the season and has posted a low round 76 twice this year. Holt is coming off a seventh-place finish at the Golden Grizzlies Invitational with a 36-hole score of 156, +12, while Wilson returns to the links following a fourth-place finish at the Oakland University event with a two-round score of 154, +10.
Lewis is coming off a second round 72, even par, at the Golden Grizzlies Invitational, which marked the second time this season she had match her career-low round of 72 having previous shot that at the Cardinal Classic two weeks ago. Lewis has posted a stroke average of 78.43 on the season and has finished in the top-25 in each of the last two tournaments, including a 13th-place finish at the Oakland event last weekend.
Leading the Falcons this season in stroke average is Rodriguez, as the sophomore has registered a season average of 77.00 thus far this season. The Flower Mound, Texas native has two top-three finishes, taking third-place at both the Jon P. Spiess Memorial and the Cardinal Classic, and recorded a 15th-place showing last week at the Golden Grizzlies Invitational. Rodriguez has recorded low rounds of 73 and 74 so far this fall season.
Like Rodriguez, Baer is having a strong sophomore season as she has recorded three top-25 individual finishes this fall, including a second-place finish at the Jon P. Spiess Memorial. Baer, who has a low round 74 so far this year, has turned in a stroke average of 79.00 on the season.
Bartell will round out the Falcons' six golfer lineup, as the junior has registered a stroke average of 81.57 thus far this season. Bartell has posted three straight rounds of 83 over her last three rounds of play after shooting a season-low round 76 at the first round of the Cardinal Classic.
The first round of play will begin with a double tee start at 8:30 a.m. on Monday morning.
