BGSU Volleyball Announces Addition Of Five Student-Athletes

Bowling Green, Ohio – Bowling Green State University volleyball coach Danijela Tomic has announced that five student-athletes have committed to play at BGSU beginning in the fall of 2015. Madeline Brandewie, Ryann Cox, Isabel Kovacic, Anna Newsome and Kallie Seimet will all play for the Falcons beginning next year.
"I am very excited that these five outstanding young ladies have chosen to continue their volleyball careers at BGSU," Tomic said. "They are all excellent students, great athletes and people who will fit our program culture, bring depth to our team and represent BGSU with class."
Madeline BrandewieBrandewie, a 6-foot-1 senior middle blocker at Bishop Hartley High School who hails from Columbus, Ohio, is the daughter of Thomas and Kelly Brandewie. She is a 2014 First Team All-Central Catholic League performer and second team all-district. Her teams have gone 57-20 from 2012-14, including three consecutive 6-2 campaigns in the Central Catholic League. Brandewie hit .363 this year with 2.5 blocks per set and a .950 serve percentage. Her team was regional runner-up in 2013 when she was honorable mention all-district and district runner-up in 2012 as she earned honorable mention all-district accolades and second team all-Central Catholic League honors. Brandewie plays club volleyball for Mintonette.
Ryann CoxCox, a 5-6 senior defensive specialist at Toledo St. Ursula Academy who hails from Oregon, Ohio, is the daughter of Jim and Tammy Cox. Her team finished as state runner-up in 2013 and placed third in both 2012 and 2014. The squad won three consecutive Three Rivers Athletic Conference championships and has a combined record of 82-4 during that span. Cox was a TRAC honorable mention all-conference performer in 2014. She played club volleyball for TVC and will play for Legacy. Isabel Kovacic
Kovacic, a 6-3 senior outside/right side hitter at Araphoe High School who hails from Littleton, Colo., is the daughter of Emilio and Amber Kovacic. She led her team to a 25-3 record in 2013, a state runner-up and a national ranking of No. 63. Her squad won a conference championship as she posted 226 kills, 73 blocks and 68 digs in 90 sets with a .257 attack percentage. She was a 2013 Colorado All-Academic first team selection and was named to the Regis Jam Tournament all-tournament team. Kovacic plays club volleyball for Colorado Juniors, winning the USAV Nationals in the 17's American Division a year ago, and will be joining the BGSU program in January. Anna Newsome
Newsome, a 5-7 senior setter at IES Pau Vila who hails from Sabadell, Barcelona, is the daughter of Robert Newsome and Rosa Maria Mimo. Her Arc Blume squad was 2012-13 champions of the Catalan 1st Division and she was named best setter at the National Regional Championship in 2013 playing for Catalonia. With Arc Blume, she was 2013 best setter at an international tournament in Vitrolles and was MVP of the Barcelona Invitational Tournament in 2014. Her Catalonia team won the National Regional Championship three consecutive years beginning in 2011. She plays club volleyball for CV Barcelona and has played for the Spanish youth and junior national teams. Kallie Seimet
Seimet, a 5-8 senior libero at Clay High School who hails from Oregon, Ohio, is the daughter of Kurt and Kathy Seimet. She was a first team all-district and all-league performer in 2014 and was named second team all-district and all-league as a junior in 2013. Her team placed second in the Three Rivers Athletic Conference this year, advancing to the district semifinals. She plays club volleyball for Premier.
BGSU Volleyball is currently in its third season under Tomic and the Falcons have just two seniors and no juniors on the current squad. The team currently has 11 freshmen and sophomores to join with this group of five student-athletes.
