BOWLING GREEN, Ohio—Bowling Green State University Director of Athletics Chris Kingston and head baseball coach Danny Schmitz recently announced the completion of the program's first ever permanent locker room. The locker room, which is located inside the BGSU Ice Arena, will serve as the home to Falcon baseball for years to come.
Â
"We are thrilled that our current MAC Championship Baseball team have a place to call home," Senior Associate AD/SWA Lesley Irvine said. "The locker room is first class and is a fitting match for a program with such a history and tradition of success. On behalf of the department I want to thank the alumni and supporters of the program who made this vision a reality. It is a wonderful example of what can be achieved through private support and generosity. Not only does this impact the student-athlete experience during their time here, but it will also become a point of pride as we recruit future Falcons."
Â
The locker room features professional-style lockers for 35 players, complete with individual USB/power stations for each player. Each locker includes a custom stool with a Falcon logo. Several reclining chairs sit in the middle of the room for players to enjoy and relax in front of the television, complete with surround sound throughout the facility. A trophy case displaying the history of the Bowling Green baseball program will soon be added to the locker room. The finishing touches include signage which represent all of the tradition of Falcon baseball including championship banners, photos of past players, panels showing the 2013 MAC Championship team, and more.
Several former Falcons and loyal supporters of the program contributed to the project to make this "front door" for the baseball program a reality. Black Swamp Sports' David Barkholz, Jon Treece, Jack Kieffer, and Scot Bressler, along with former player J.R. Jarvis contributed to the project.
"We would like to thank all of our donors and supporters who helped make the locker room a reality for the program," Schmitz began. "We would also like to thank Chris Kingston and Lesley Irvine for their hard work and dedication in making this dream become a reality. This is an exciting day for BGSU baseball, and one that has been in the making for several years. Go Falcons!"
