Falcons Lead All-Ohio Championships After Day One

Cincinnati, Ohio – Brooke Pleger won the hammer throw and Jeanette Pettigrew placed second in the long jump as the Bowling Green track and field team started strong at the All-Ohio Championships Friday night. The Falcons lead the meet with 27 points after the opening day, one point ahead of second-place Ohio.

Pleger, coming off a seventh place finish at the NCAA National Championships a year ago, opened her outdoor season in the hammer throw with a strong performance. She threw 214-feet-4 to win the event, defeating two strong competitors in the process. Ashland's Cynthia Watt, who ranks first in the country in NCAA Division II, was second and Akron's Brittany Funk, who ranks second in the country in NCAA Division I, was third. Pleger's distance was less than six feet shy of her own personal best and places her third in the nation.

In all, BGSU had three Falcons score points in the hammer throw. Senior Tina Perrine set a season-best with a toss of 182-0 to place seventh and redshirt freshman Kori Reiser was eighth at 178-6.

The Falcons also placed three in the top eight in the long jump. Pettigrew finished second at 18-10.5 and sophomore Alicia Arnold was fourth with a jump of 17-11.75. Freshman Connor Kempf ended eighth at 17-2.75.

Junior Krystin Reiser finished day one of the heptathlon in a strong position, scoring 2,715 points through four of the seven events, an improvement of 328 points ahead of her personal best pace at this point. She set new career bests in the 100 hurdles, the shot put and 200, while tying her best in the high jump. She will conclude competition Saturday with the final three events.

Bowling Green will complete the All-Ohio Championships beginning Saturday at 10 am.
