Bowling Green, Ohio – Sophomore Lily Bartell carded a first round 76, +4, on Saturday to pace her squad, while freshman Mikayla Baer led her team with a 78, +6, as the Bowling Green State University women's golf team concluded day one of the Dolores Black Falcon Invitational hosted by BGSU at the Stone Ridge Golf Club in Bowling Green, Ohio on Saturday afternoon.
The Falcons first team led by Bartell, registered a first round team score of 319, +31, to sit in a tie with Detroit, last year's champion, at seventh-place overall out of the 15 team field. BGSU is only three strokes out of the top-five and a mere 15 strokes behind the tournament leader.
BGSU's second squad in the two-day event led by Baer, is in 14th-place overall with a score of 332, +44, on Saturday.
Bowling Green's Bartell shot a 37 on the front nine and a 39 on the back nine to finish with her first round score of 76, +4, putting her in a tie for sixth-place overall.
Behind Bartell is junior Patricia Holt, who carded a 38 on the front nine and a 42 on the back to shoot a first round score of 80, +8, and senior Bailey Arnold who tallied a 38 on the back nine to finish day one with an 18-hole score of 81, +9. Holt is in a tie for 29th-place overall, while Arnold finds herself in a log jam at 34th-place.
Rounding out the lineup for the Falcons first team was Shelby Wilson and Hannah Lewis who turned in rounds of 82, +10, and 88, +16, respectively. Wilson is in a tie for 43rd, while Lewis is tied for 79th overall after Saturday's round of play.
Behind Baer's 78, +6, on Saturday, who is in a tie for 13th-place overall, the second team saw fellow freshman Fran Rodriguez post a score of 82, +10, and sophomore Lauren Diehl shoot an 84, +12, to sit in ties at 43rd and 58th, respectively.
Senior Kelsey Benson and sophomore Julia Hoffman recorded rounds of 88, +16, and 89, +17, to end day one in 79th and 81st overall.
Ball State leads after day one of play with an 18-hole combined team score of 304, +16, while nipping out their heels is fellow Mid-American Conference member Eastern Michigan who is in second-place with a first round team score of 305, +17.
South Dakota State (315, +27) and Chicago State (315, +27) are both tied for third overall, while Akron (316, +28) rounds out the top-five on the team leaderboard.
Overall, Sydney MacDonald of South Dakota State and Meghan Perry of Ball State sit atop of the individual leaderboard with round one low scores of 73, +1. Both MacDonald and Perry recorded a 37 on the front and a 36 on the back nine for the day.
The second and final round of play is slated for an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start tomorrow morning, Sunday, April 13th, at the Stone Ridge Golf Club in Bowling Green, Ohio.
