Bowling Green, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University women's golf team will host its annual Dolores Black Falcon Invitational event this weekend, April 12-13, at the Stone Ridge Golf Club in Bowling Green, Ohio.
The two-day, 36-hole event, will once again be held at the par 72, 5,960-yards, Stone Ridge Golf Club in Bowling Green, Ohio. The first round of play will tee-off on Saturday, April 12th, with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start, while the second and final round of play is slated for an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start on Sunday, April 13th.
"We are honored to host the Dolores Black Falcon Invitational this week," stated head coach Stephanie Young. "There will be a record high 15-teams competing from all over the country (as far as South Dakota). It is a special event for all of those involved and our program is proud of its growth and the continued opportunity to make it a favorite tournament for each and every student-athlete."
This year's tournament field will consist of 15 teams ranging from Ohio all the way to South Dakota. Teams participating include two squads from Bowling Green and one squad each from Akron, Ball State, Chicago State, Cleveland State, Detroit, Eastern Michigan, Illinois-Chicago, IPFW, Northern Illinois, Oakland, Ohio, South Dakota State and Western Illinois.
The Falcons, who are coming off a sixth-place team finish at the 2014 Colonel Classic last weekend, will have not one, but two teams in its annual home spring event this weekend. One team will be comprised of Lily Bartell, Shelby Wilson, Patricia Holt, Bailey Arnold and Hannah Lewis, who all five have competed in all three spring events for BGSU.
Bartell is coming off a top-five finish in which she posted a second round tournament low score of 74, +2, at the 2014 Colonel Classic to finish in tied for fourth-place overall last time out. The sophomore has posted three top-five finishes this season and leads the Falcons with an overall stroke average of 76.24 over 17 rounds of play on the year.
Both Wilson and Holt were consistent over the two-days of play at the 2014 Colonel Classic, as Wilson posted back-to-back rounds of 83 and 81 to finish with a 36-hole score of 164, +20, only three strokes behind Holt and her score of 161, +17, in which she turned in rounds of 80 and 81. The two juniors will each enter play this weekend with a stroke average of 78.00 on the year.
Rounding out team one for the Falcons will be Arnold and Lewis. Arnold, who has played in all eight tournaments for BGSU this season , is coming off a two-round score of 166, +22, just one weekend ago at the Colonel Classic. Like Arnold, Lewis has also played in every tournament for the Falcons this season, and is coming off a 36-hole score of 169, +25, last time out. Both Arnold and Lewis have registered stroke averages just over 78 thus far this season.
BGSU's second squad for the weekend tournament will consist of Mikayla Baer, Kelsey Benson, Fran Rodriguez, Lauren Diehl and Julia Hoffman.
Both Baer and Benson headline this Falcon lineup, as each competed last weekend as individuals at the 2014 Colonel Classic. In their spring debuts, Baer posted a BGSU low round of 79, +7, in round one of play and finished with a two-round score of 169, +25, overall, while Benson posted two consecutive rounds of 85 to end the tournament with a score of 170, +26.
The rest of the second team will all be making their 2014 spring debuts at the Stone Ridge Golf Club. Rodriguez will be competing in only her second tournament this season, as the freshman carded rounds of 78 and 80 to put her in 16th-place overall at the Cleveland State Invitational during the fall season, while both Diehl and Hoffman will both be seeing their first competitive action since the Cleveland State Invitational last fall as well.
