AMODIO EARNS PRESEASON MADNESS ALL-MAC RECOGNITIONÂ Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â
Bowling Green State University sophomore defender Paige Amodio was named to the College Sports Madness Mid-American 2014 Preseason All-Conference Second-Team.(www.collegesportsmadness.com). In her first season at Bowling Green in 2013, Amodio was named to the MAC's All-Freshman Team. She was one of just three Falcons to start all 17 matches, playing a total of 1,445 minutes on the season which ranked as the second-highest total on the team. The center defender was on the pitch for 971 of the team's total of 1,030 minutes in MAC matches and started the first match of her collegiate career at Cleveland State on August 25. Amodio posted six shots from her defensive position on the year, putting three on frame for a shots on goal percentage of .500 for the year.
YOUTH MOVEMENTÂ Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â
The 2014 BGSU women's soccer roster boast a total of 16 sophomores and freshmen out of the 23 player squad. In fact, of the 16 total underclassmen, 11 are either redshirt-freshmen or true freshmen.
BIGGEST UNKNOWN: SCORINGÂ Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â
Perhaps the biggest question for the Falcons in 2014 will be where will the scoring come from, as the Falcons return only one goal from last season. In fact, BGSU has only two players on the entire roster in Sidney Huth (5 goals) and Ashley Garr (1 goal) that have notched a goal in their BGSU careers. The Falcons have totaled only nine goals as a team in each of the last two years.
FALCONS ALL-TIME VERSUS THE 2014 FOESÂ Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â
The Falcons have a combined all-time wins total of 81 victories over its 2014 foes, including 11 wins versus Buffalo and 10 wins over Kent State. Overall, the Falcons are 81-113-26 against its slated 2014 opponents.
THE RETURNING COREÂ Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â
The Falcons have a core of nine returners back in 2014, six of which started over 50 percent of the matches last season for BGSU. Back are seniors Ashley Garr (Goodrich, Mich.) and Sidney Huth (Lebanon, Ohio), as well as redshirt-senior Kylie Briem (Beavercreek, Ohio). Fellow upperclassmen include juniors Haley Parkinson (Scottsdale, Ariz.) and Emma Norris (Sycamore, Ill.), and Lauren Cadel (Newmarket, Ontario, Canada), while sophomores Melissa Needham (Saline, Mich.), Paige Amodio (Strongsville, Ohio) and Jessica Creech (Troy, Mich.) will all look to make an impact in their second seasons of play at the collegiate level.
A TOTAL OF 14 NEW FACES ON THE BGSU ROSTERÂ Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â
Heading into the 2014 season, the Falcons will have a total of 14 new faces on the roster as Coach Basalyga and her staff begin the process of restoring the program back to championship contenders. SAME STAFF FOR THE SECOND STRAIGHT SEASONÂ Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â
For the first-time since the 2010 & 2011 seasons, the Falcons will have the same coaching staff on the sideline for the second consecutive season as Lindsay Basalyga and Rhonda Gottschalk return to BGSU for their second season having come to Bowling Green prior to the 2013 season. Of the nine returners, eight of them have played for a different coach in each of their seasons at BGSU prior to this year.
REBUILD & RESTOREÂ Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â
BGSU head coach Lindsay Basalyga is in her second year at the helm of the Falcons women's soccer program and is on a mission to help rebuild the program back to its championship ways. Since BGSU posted 12 wins and advanced to the semifinals of the MAC Championship Tournament in 2008, the Falcons have won only 16 matches over the last five years and have failed to make it to the MAC Championship Tournament in each of those seasons.
ON TAP FOR THE FALCONSÂ Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â
