Both Rodriguez and the Falcons Take Third at the Cardinal Classic

Yorktown, Indiana – Both sophomore Fran Rodriguez and the Bowling Green State University women's golf team used strong rounds on Tuesday to take third-place overall in both the individual and team standings at the Cardinal Classic hosted by Ball State University at The Players Club in Yorktown, Indiana.
After shooting a team score of 311 on Monday, the Falcons carded a team score of 296, +8, on Tuesday to move up into third-place overall out of the 16 field team with a tournament score of 607, +31. Tuesday's team score of 296 is the fourth best 18-hole team score in BGSU women's golf history, while their combined team score of 607 is also the fourth best 36-hole team score in the program's history.
"Coach (Amy) Ruthenberg and I are very proud of our team today. They stayed focused and finished strong! It was an outstanding team effort," commented head coach Stephanie Young. "We will celebrate the success today and get back to work tomorrow to focus on Oakland this weekend."
Just one day after carding a career-low round 74, +2, on Monday, Rodriguez topped her first round mark with a 73, +1, a new career-low 18-hole score, on Tuesday to finish in third-place overall with a combined score of 147, +3. The sophomore totaled seven birdies over the two days of play and finished just two strokes behind the individual tournament champion.
"Fran (Rodriguez) led us again which capped off a great tournament," continued Coach Young. "She and her teammates were determined to move up the board today."
Also posting a top-15 finish at the Cardinal Classic was senior Patricia Holt. Holt recorded rounds of 77, +5, and 75, +3, to finish in a tie for 15th-place overall with her combined score of 152, +8. The senior was consistent, as she totaled 25 pars over her 36 holes of play.

Rounding out the lineup for the Falcons was junior Lauren Diehl who finished in a tie for 88th-place overall with rounds of 88, +16, and 84, +12, to give her a combined score of 172, +28.
Competing as individuals, sophomore Mikayla Baer posted a top-20 finish with a combined score of 153, +9, while junior Lily Bartell finished in a tie for 40th overall with her 36-hole combined score of 159, +15. Baer carded rounds of 79, +7, and 74, +2, and the lone eagle for the second round, while Bartell shot rounds of 76, +4, and 83, +11.
The Falcons finished behind two MAC foes in Western Michigan and Eastern Michigan who both finished in a tie for first-place overall with an identical team score of 598, +22. Eastern Michigan defeated Western Michigan on the first playoff hole.
BGSU will look to continue its hot play this weekend, as the Falcons will return to action on Sept. 27-28 at the Oakland Invitational in Rochester, Michigan.
