Bowling Green, Ohio – Looking to post their third straight top-three finish, the Bowling Green University women's golf team will send not just one, but two teams to compete this weekend, Sept. 27-28, at the Golden Grizzlies Invitational hosted by Oakland University at the Katke-Cousins Golf Course in Rochester, Michigan.
Coming off a first-place team finish at the Jon P. Spiess Memorial two weeks ago and a third-place team showing at the Cardinal Classic earlier this week, in which the team carded the program's fourth lowest 36-hole team score of 607 for the event, BGSU will look to continue its strong play this weekend.
The tournament field will consist of five other teams outside of the Falcons' two squads in Oakland, Ohio, Central Michigan, Detroit and Youngstown. The tournament will consist of 18-holes of play each day.
BGSU head coach Stephanie Young will field two teams for the two-day event this weekend. The first team will consist of Fran Rodriguez, Patricia Holt, Mikayla Baer, Shelby Wilson and Hannah Lewis, while the second team is comprised off Lily Bartell, Lauren Diehl, Madelynn Swank, Julia Hoffman and Miranda Dubler.
Rodriguez is coming off her best intercollegiate performance yet, as the sophomore posted back-to-back career-low rounds of 74 and 73 to take third-place overall at the Cardinal Classic earlier this week. The Flower Mound, Texas native had posted two straight third-place finishes and has carded a BGSU low stroke average of 75.33 over multiple rounds of play thus far this season.
Both Holt and Baer will play for the second straight week, as Holt turned in a top-15 finish with a combined score of 152, +8, at the Cardinal Classic with rounds of 77 and 75, while Baer, who played as an individual last time out, turned in rounds of 79 and 74 to finish in a tie for 18th-place with her score of 153, +9. Holt and Baer currently have stroke averages of 77.20 and 77.00, respectively, so far this season.
Rounding out the team one lineup is Wilson and Lewis who both finished in a tie for 22nd-place earlier this week at the Cardinal Classic with identical scores of 154, +10. Wilson has continued to improve her score each and every round of play at both her previous tournaments thus far this season, while Lewis is coming off a career-low round 72 last Tuesday at the Cardinal Classic. Both players have matching strokes averages of 78.20 to date this fall season.
Bartell and Diehl will both look to improve on their play from last time out, as the two finished in a tie for 40th and in a tie for 88th overall, respectively, at the Cardinal Classic. Bartell had a first round 76, but struggled over the second round of play to shoot an 83 and finish with a 36-hole score of 159, +15. Diehl turned in rounds of 78 and 79 at the Redbird Invitational to open the fall season and will look to regain that stroke this weekend.
Swank, who won the Jon P. Spiess Memorial two weeks ago in her first-ever intercollegiate event, carded a 75 and her only round of play this season.
Like Swank, both Hoffman and Dubler will also be playing in only their second tournament thus far this fall season and will look to improve upon their respective scores of 88 and 87 at the Spiess Memorial Event on Sept. 14. Both carded top-10 finishes at the tournament.
