Rochester, Michigan – For the third straight event of the 2014 fall season, the Bowling Green State University women's golf team tallied a top-three team finish, while four different golfers placed in the top-15 overall at the Golden Grizzlies Invitational hosted by Oakland University at the Katke-Cousins Golf Course in Rochester, Mich.
Led by the senior duo of Shelby Wilson and Patricia Holt, the Falcons first team posted team rounds of 321 and 305 to finish in third-place overall with a combined team score of 626, +50, out of the seven team field.
BGSU's second squad recorded rounds of 339 and 337 to finish in seventh-place overall with their combined team score of 676, +100.
"We saw a lot of improvement today overall and made up a little bit of ground, but it wasn't enough to catch the teams ahead of us. It is a solid top-three finish on a challenging golf course," head coach Stephanie Young stated. "It was great to see a huge comeback from Hannah (Lewis), who led us with six birdies and an even par round. The team will get back to work and get ready for Cincinnati next week."
Wilson carded a second straight round of 77, +5, to finish in a tie for fourth-place overall with her two-round combined score of 154, +10. The senior had 21 pars and three birdies over the weekend.
Holt, who like Wilson entered play on Sunday tied for third overall, turned in a second round 79, +7, giving her a combined score of 156, +12, which placed her in a tie for seventh-place overall.
Junior Hannah Lewis paced the Falcons on day two with a BGSU low round of 72, even par, matching her career-low 18-hole score from earlier this season. Coupled with her first round 86, +14, Lewis finished in a tie for 13th-place overall with her combined score of 158, +14.
Rounding out the scoring for the Falcons first team on Sunday were sophomores Fran Rodriguez and Mikayla Baer. Rodriguez followed up her first round 82, +10, on Saturday with a round of 77, +5, on Sunday to finish 15th overall with her two-day score of 159, +15. Baer dropped six strokes on Sunday from her first round 85, +13, with a second round 79, +7, to place in a tie for 21st overall with a combined score of 164, +20.
Leading the Falcons' second team on Sunday was junior Lauren Diehl who posted a round of 79, +7. Combined with her first round 85, +13, Diehl finished with a two-round combined score of 164, +20, good enough to place her in a tie for 21st overall.
Just like on Saturday, both Lily Bartell and Madelynn Swank shot identical scores of 83, +11, on Sunday to each turn in a 36-hole score of 166, +11, on the weekend.
The Falcons' Miranda Dubler and Julia Hoffman each registered rounds of 92, +20, over the final round of play to give the freshman Dubler a two-round combined score of 180, +36, and the junior Hoffman a 36-hole combined score of 191, +47.
Ohio won the team championship, as the Bobcats posted rounds of 315 and 303 to finish in first-place overall with a tournament team-low score of 618, +42, while host Oakland finished in second with a team score of 624, +48.
Bowling Green will next play at the Bearcat Classic hosted by the University of Cincinnati on Oct. 6-7 at the TPC River's Bend Golf Course in Maineville, Ohio.
