They Said It
On preparations for this weekend: "I have a lot of notes on some things we need to work on. We are going to put in some good work at the beginning of the week and then focus on some little things towards the end of the week.
On diving this season: "We have six divers on the roster right now and all six of them will get to compete this weekend. We were able to bring diving back for the Tom Stubbs Relays last weekend, which had not been part of that meet for well over a decade. It was a great way to be able to get them some experience and get out and compete. Now that we've got a full diving team it will help us out throughout the season and take some pressure off the swimmers sometimes."
On Saturday's meet: "First off the meet will begin at 11:00 am, which is the same time the MAC Championships begin. To be able to simulate that for a dual meet will be great experience for us. It's a Ziggy Points event, as well as a Res Life and Greek Life challenge, so there will be a lot of people here supporting us. It should be awesome for us to get out there and compete in front of that many people."

Junior Victoria Griffin (Littlestown, Pa.) enters her junior year for the Falcons in 2015-16. Griffin, who swims in freestyle events, owns the school record in the 50 free, 100 free and was part of the relay teams that set school records in both the 400 free and 800 free. Throughout her two brief years in the program thus far, Griffin holds four of the top 10 swims in the 50 free, six of the top ten (including the top four) in the 100 free, and three of the top ten in the 200 free. She has been named All-MAC First Team in both of her seasons donning the Brown and Orange and has been named MAC Swimmer of the Week seven times.
Falcons Have International Flavor
The 2015-16 roster features six swimmers who hail from outside the United States. Daniela Carrillo, a senior who swims the breaststroke and IM, is from Hermosillo, Mexico. Sophomores Maria Galic (Jonkoping, Sweden), Elodie Schreiber (Saint-Nabor, France), and Franziska Wohlert (Berlin, Germany) are all from different countries, while freshman Kalinka Mogensen (Silkeborg, Denmark) and Christin Swanepoel-Stevens (Pretoria, South Africa) are also international.
Butterfly Bullock
Senior Jordan Bullock (Zeeland, Mich.) enters her senior season as one of the team's leaders. Bullock, who swims the breaststroke events for the Falcons, owns the school record in the 200 fly. Her time of 2:00.11 set in 2013 still holds up entering the 2015-16 season. Bullock owns four of the top six 200 fly times in school history. Bullock was also part of the 200 medley relay team that owns the school record.
Newman Chasing New Records
Continuing the long line of strong freestyle swimmers is senior Hannah Newman (Champaign, Ill.), who owns the school record in the 200 free. Newman's school record time, which came at the MAC prelims in 2014, came in 1:48.71. Last season at MAC Championships, Newman finished sixth in the A final of the 200 free and also qualified for the B final in the 50 free. Newman also swam on the relay teams that own school records in the 400 and 800 freestyle events.
Capouch Ready For Senior Season
Tara Capouch (Orland Park, Ill.) owns the school record in both the 500 free and 1000 free for the Orange and Brown. Her 500 free record time of 4:52.84 came at the 2014 MAC Championships. She also owns the second and fifth fastest swims in school history in the event. In the 1000 free, Capouch set the school record last season in a time of 10:08.84, nearly two seconds faster than the previous school record. She also owns the fifth fastest swim in the 1000 free in school history. Capouch also swam on the 800 free relay team that set the school record last season.
Carrillo's Career Has Been Historic
Senior Daniela Carrillo (Hermosillo, Mexico) is winding down an historic career in 2015-16 for the Falcons. As a freshman, Carrillo became the first Falcon swimmer to qualify for NCAA Championships since 1996, swimming in both the 100 and 200 breaststroke. Carrillo owns the school record in both events. On top of her success in the pool for the Falcons, Carrillo has also had success in the pool representing the Mexican National Team in several international competitions throughout her time at BGSU. Carrillo also swam on the 400 medley relay team which owns the school record.
Ready To Dive In This Season
After reinstating diving in time for the 2014-15 season, the Falcons roster will feature a full complement of six divers for the 2015-16 season. Having diving will allow the Falcons to score points in dual meets and enter divers into events at the MAC Championships later in the season, something they did not do last year. Rachel Perry (Collinsville, Ill.) and Kylie Bosco (Downers Grove, Ill.) are the only two divers that return for this season. Four freshmen – Emily Ridge (Clarkston, Mich.), Claire Stam (Grand Rapids, Mich.), Abby Villenauve (Hudson, Ohio) and Ashley White (Sunbury, Ohio) – join the team to round out the roster this year.
Recapping Last Weekend
Last weekend the Falcons competed in the Tom Stubbs Relays, hosting Akron, Oakland, Toledo and Youngstown State at Cooper Pool. The five teams competed in 10 different relay swims, with all but one event having two heats. BGSU Athletics Hall of Famer Tom Stubbs, whom the meet is named after, was in attendance and presented with his HOF medal by Athletics Director Chris Kingston.
"I thought the women did an awesome job for the first time against outside competition," Ense said about the team's performance at the Tom Stubbs Relays. "Most of the girls swam six or seven events during the meet, so it was more like a glorified practice because of how quickly that happened. To be able to see them swim as much as they did was great to see."
On Saturday morning, several alumni were back for the Jean Campbell Alumni Meet as part of BGSU's Homecoming Weekend.
