Falcons Brave Wind & Tough Playing Conditions for Par on Monday

Powells Point, N.C. – The Bowling Green State University men's golf team braved up to 30 mph winds and tough playing conditions on Monday to shoot the lowest team round of the day at 284, even par, to climb into a tie for second-place overall with after 36-holes of play at the ODU/OBX Intercollegiate at the Kilmarlic Golf Club in Powells Point, N.C.
With the lowest team score on the second round of play, BGSU moved up into a tie for second-place overall with host Old Dominion out of the 18-team field with a 36-hole score of 565, -3 under par. Â
The Falcons are just six strokes back of the 36-hole leader Campbell and the Fighting Camels 36-hole score of 559, -9 under par.
"The guys played really well today and some very tough conditions. The wind was blowing up to 30 mph for most of the round and the course had some tough playing conditions," stated head coach Kevin Farrell. "I am so proud of the way the guys played today. They stayed in the game, stayed focused and was mentally sharp for the entire round. We started out well in some tough conditions and finished the round out strong as well to give ourselves a chance to win the tournament."
BGSU's Pablo Heredia Iglesias moved into a tie for third-place overall with a second round 18-hole score of 72, +1, after shooting a first round 66, -5 under par, on Sunday. With his 36-hole score of 138, -4 under par, Iglesias is only two strokes off the lead heading into the final round of play on Tuesday. The freshman has one eagle, eight birdies, a par-3 scoring average of 2.90, -1 under par, as well as a par-4 scoring average of 3.89, -2 under par, over his first 36-holes of play.
Leading the Falcons on day two of play was sophomore Cameron Michalak with a BGSU low round 68, -3 under par. Michalak, who leapt up to fifth-place overall with rounds of 71, even par, and 68, -3 under par, and a two-round combined score of 139, -3 under par. The sophomore leads the tournament field with a par-4 scoring average of 3.83, -3 under par, and is tied for second overall with 10 total birdies over the first two days of competition.
Junior Brett Rinker followed up his first round 70, -1 under par, with a second round 72, +1, to post a 36-hole score of 142, even par. The junior, who will enter the final round of play in a tie for 10th-place overall, has a team-high 24 pars over his first 36-holes of play and has a team-best par-5 scoring average of 4.63, -3 under par, overall.
Jose Narro recorded a second round 75, +4, on Monday, and combined with his first round 74, +3, he ended day two in a tie for 48th-place overall with a combined two-round score of 149, +7.
Tied with Narro at 48th overall with a combined score of 149, +7, is freshman Trey Walker who dropped five strokes off his first round score 77, +6, with a second round 72, +1, on Monday. The newcomer has turned in a par-5 scoring average of 4.75, -2 under par, over the tournament thus far.
"We have three guys in Pablo, Cameron and Brett that have put themselves in position to win this event with a strong round of play on Tuesday," continued Coach Farrell.
The final 18 holes of play is set for a shotgun start tomorrow morning, weather permitting, at 9:30 a.m.
