October 23, 2015 | Men's Golf
Bowling Green, Ohio – All nine BGSU Falcons on the 2015-16 men's golf roster will be in action next week, as the Falcons will compete at the ODU/OBX Intercollegiate in Powells Point, N.C. from Oct. 25-27, as well as send four individuals to the Rocket Individual Classic at the nearby Belmont Country Club on Oct. 25.
"This is going to be a good week for all our guys, as all of them will get a chance to compete," stated head coach Kevin Farrell. "We plan to bounce back at the ODU/OBX Intercollegiate this week and play our game, which will give us a great chance to win the event. The guys at the Rocket Individual Classic will have a chance to compete over 36-holes of play. This is a great chance for them to gain experience and play against a very good golf course."
The ODU/OBX Intercollegiate tournament field will include Akron, BGSU, Campbell, Delaware, Drake, Drexel, George Mason, Hartford, Hofstra, James Madison, La Salle, Longwood, Nebraska-Omaha, North Dakota State, Old Dominion, Saint Francis (Pa.), Saint Joseph and South Dakota.
The Falcons will send out the lineup of Jose Narro, Pablo Heredia Iglesias, Brett Rinker, Trey Walker and Cameron Michalak to the three-day ODU/OBX Intercollegiate held at the Kilmarlic Golf Club in Powells Point, N.C. on Oct. 25-27.
Having posted a 36-hole score of 157, +13, last week at the Mountaineer Intercollegiate, Narro will look to bounce back this week at the ODU/OBX Intercollegiate. The junior, who has carded a low round 66 so far this fall season, has totaled five sub-par rounds overall and has registered three top-15 place finishes over BGSU's four fall tournaments. Narro is second on the team with a stroke average of 71.82 over 11 rounds of play so far this fall.
Like Narro, Heredia Iglesias is coming off his worst showing of the fall season last time out in which he turned in rounds of 74 and 80 for a 36-hole score of 154, +10. The freshman has posted rounds of 72 or lower five times this fall season and finished fifth overall at the Cleveland State Invitational with a 54-hole score of 212, -4 under par, earlier this month.
Rinker, the reigning MAC Men's Golfer of the Week, finished as the individual runner-up at the Mountaineer Intercollegiate on Oct. 19-20 with a 36-hole score of 140, -4 under par. With his two rounds of 70, -2 under par, his last time out, the junior has tallied five sub-par rounds of play this fall season and leads the Falcons with a stroke average of 71.64 over his 11 rounds of play this fall.
Playing in his third straight event as part of the BGSU lineup, Walker has posted rounds of 75, 75, 77 and 76 over his last four rounds of play. The freshman finished in a tie for 37th overall at the Mountaineer Intercollegiate with a 36-hole score of 153, +9, in only his second intercollegiate event.
After playing as an individual at the Mountaineer Intercollegiate one week ago, Michalak will return to the BGSU lineup this week for the ODU/OBX Intercollegiate. The sophomore, who shot a career-low round 65 over the final round of play at the Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational in September, has played in three fall events for the Falcons this season in the Marshall Invitational, William H. Tucker Intercollegiate and in the inaugural Mountaineer Intercollegiate.
BGSU's Mitchell Kontak, Max Rispler, Eli Stacy and Ethan DeForest will all compete at the Rocket Individual Classic on Sunday, Oct. 25.
The one-day event will be played at the par-71, 6,918-yard Belmont Country Club. The 36-hole event will consist of a tee time start beginning at 8:30 a.m. and will include individual golfers from Ball State, Bowling Green, Northern Illinois, Valparaiso and Toledo in the second-annual event.
This will be the fifth event for BGSU's Kontak this season, as he has turned in a stroke average of 77.18 over 11 rounds of play so far this fall. At last year's inaugural Rocket Individual Classic held at the Detwiler Golf Course in Toledo, Ohio, Kontak finished in a tie for 11th-place overall with a round of 85, +14.
Rispler will be teeing-off for the Falcons as an individual for the second time this fall season at the Rocket Individual Classic. The redshirt-freshman carded rounds of 72, 75 and 77 for a combined three-round score of 224, +11, at the Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational to open up the 2015 fall slate.
Both Stacy and DeForest will be making their season debuts this Sunday at the Rocket Individual Classic. At last year's individual event, DeForest posted a fourth-place finish with a BGSU low round 77, +6, while Stacy shot a 79, +8, to finish in a tie for sixth overall.
Daily results and recaps will be available at the conclusion of each day of play at www.BGSUFalcons.com.
