Friday's CSU match begins at 6:00 p.m., with the UC dual set for a 2:00 p.m. start. Both matches will be held at the Perrysburg Tennis Center, and admission is free.
The Falcons played a pair of matches in the state of Wisconsin last weekend, falling to Marquette on Friday (Feb. 6) and Wisconsin the next day (Feb. 7).
BGSU's lineup has remained the same in each of the four dual matches to date. Elkin and assistant coach Stephanie Dalmacio have seen sophomore Harley Hutchison and freshman Megan Miller play at singles flights number one and two, respectively. Miller is one of five first-year Falcons in the lineup, which also has included freshman Emily Witt at the third flight, sophomore Leeah Floyd at flight number four, soph Antonina Farrar at the fifth flight and freshman Sydney Seeley at the sixth.
The Falcons' doubles combinations in the spring season have been Hutchison and Miller at the top flight, Floyd and Witt at flight number two and Farrar and Seeley at the third flight.
Miller, one of six first-year Falcons on the nine-player roster, leads Bowling Green with 10 overall wins this season to date. Hutchison was the only member of the lineup to have competed in a collegiate dual match prior to the Falcons' dual vs. Detroit on Jan. 23.
Cleveland State enters the weekend with a record of 0-5 in dual-match play. Three of the Vikings' matches to date have been against nationally-ranked teams. Last weekend, CSU lost 5-2 decisions on the road against No. 75 Michigan State and Toledo. The team's other matches have come at home vs. Northern Illinois and No. 47 DePaul, and on the road against No. 31 Ohio State. Viking sophomore Victoria Bensimon was named the Horizon League Player of the Week on Tuesday (Feb. 10). CSU was picked to finish second in the HL in the preseason coaches' poll. Head coach Brian Etzlin's team posted the program's first-ever Horizon League regular-season title last year, and the Vikings welcomed back five letterwinners including reigning league player of the year Lauren Golick.
Cincinnati has a 2-2 record in dual matches, heading into a Friday match at Toledo. The Bearcats of first-year head coach Eric Toth have wins over Butler and UCF and losses to Indiana and Memphis so far during the 'spring' schedule. Last year, UC went 10-14 overall, and five players returned from that team.
BGSU leads Cleveland State, 9-0, in the all-time series between the teams, and the Falcons captured a 6-1 decision on the road last Valentine's Day (Feb. 14, 2014). The last meeting in Northwest Ohio saw BGSU win by a 6-1 final at the PTC two years ago (Feb. 8, 2013). The teams have met in each of the last six years.
The Falcons lead Cincinnati, 21-12, in that series, but the Bearcats captured a narrow 4-3 win in the Queen City last year (Feb. 22, 2014), breaking a six-match series winning streak for the Brown and Orange. Two years ago, in the last meeting at the PTC, the Falcons pulled out a 4-3 victory (Feb. 10, 2013).
Following this weekend's matches, the Falcons will return to the road to face Michigan State. The Falcons and Spartans will meet on Saturday, Feb. 21, with first serve scheduled for 12:00 p.m. in East Lansing.
