Akron, Ohio – Seniors Brooke Pleger and Brittany Sinclair both set new school records on the final day of the Akron Invitational Saturday. Pleger broke her own record in the weight throw, while Sinclair broke a school record in the 400 that had stood for 16 years.

Sinclair became the favorite in the Mid-American Conference in the 400 Saturday, sprinting to a time of 55.46 seconds, the fastest in the conference this year. That time broke the school record set in 1999 by Tracy Hill with a time of 55.75 seconds. Sinclair's previous best in the race was more than a full second slower at 56.53 seconds.
"We took some exciting steps today, particularly Brittany and Brooke with their school records," BGSU Track & Field coach Lou Snelling said. "Hands down, this was our best team performance at this meet. We still have a lot that needs to be accomplished next weekend if we want to set ourselves up for success at the MAC Championships."
Those results stood out but the Falcons posted numerous other strong results as well.
In the 200, junior Alicia Arnold set a new personal best with a time of 24.58 seconds. She currently ranks second in the MAC in the event. Along with her, freshman Cortisha Short and junior Kera Lamotte both set personal bests in the event with times of 25.32 and 25.41 seconds, respectively.
Redshirt sophomore Taylor Rambo added depth to Sinclair's 400 performance by setting a personal best herself in the same event. She ran 57.33 seconds to win her division of the event.
Redshirt junior Maria Meredith set a season-best time in the mile at 5:05.72 and sophomore Raven Porter tied her career best in the high jump at 5-feet-5.
BGSU will close out the regular season this weekend at the SPIRE Division I Indoor Track & Field Invitational Feb. 13-14. That will lead into the MAC Championships at Central Michigan Feb. 27-28.
