Falcons Jump Six Spots Up the Leaderboard at the Rio Verde Invitational

Rio Verde, Arizona – Four of the five Falcons in the Bowling Green State University women's golf lineup each lowered their second round score on Saturday, as the Falcons posted a combined team score of 296, +8, and jumped six spots up the team leaderboard on day two of the 2015 Rio Verde Invitational hosted by Western Michigan at the par 72, 6,215-yards White Wing Golf Course at the Rio Verde Country Club in Rio Verde, Arizona.
The Falcons' round of 296 was the third lowest team score of the day, as BGSU dropped 15 strokes off its first round team score of 311 on Friday to move up the leaderboard from 15th to ninth-place with a two-round combined team score of 607, +31.
BGSU's round of 296 is tied for the fourth lowest 18-hole team score in BGSU women's golf history. The Falcons carded a round of 296 this fall over the second round of play at the Cardinal Classic on Sept. 23, 2014.
"I am so proud of the perseverance and determination of our team today. This is a true team effort," remarked head coach Stephanie Young. "They are playing for each other. We're looking forward to having one more opportunity to compete in the morning."
Senior Shelby Wilson carded a team-low round 72, even par, on Saturday, as the Texas native tallied one birdie and 16 pars over her 18 holes of play. Wilson, who shot an even par on both the front and back nine holes of play on Saturday, moved into a tie at 16th-place after two rounds of play with a combined score of 150, +6.
Also improving by six strokes on Saturday was junior Lily Bartell. After posting a first round 80, +8, on Friday, Bartell shot a second round 74, +2, over her second round of play to climb into a tie for 38th-place overall with a 36-hole score of 154, +10. Bartell carded three birdies and 12 pars over her 18-hole round of play on Saturday.
Turning in a second round 76, +4, was senior Patricia Holt. Holt, who posted a first round 79, +7, on day one, tallied two birdies and 10 pars on Saturday to enter the final round of play on Sunday in a tie for 49th-place overall with her 36-hole score of 155, +11.
Making the biggest improvement from round one to round two for the Falcons was sophomore Fran Rodriguez. Rodriguez improved her score by nine strokes between the two days of play, carding a second round 74, +2, on Saturday, after a first round score of 83, +11, on Friday. With her two birdies and 12 pars over her second round, Rodriguez is now in a tie for 64th-place overall with her two-round combined score of 157, +13.
Tied with Rodriguez in 64th-place overall with a 54-hole score of 157, +13, is junior Hannah Lewis. Following a first round 74, +2, Lewis posted a second round 18-hole score of 83, +11, which included 10 pars on the day.
Seton Hall remained in first-place overall with a second round team score of 298, +10, to sit atop of the team leaderboard with a 36-hole team score of 594, +18. Toledo climbed up a spot into second-place with a second round team score of 295, +7, to move to within two shots of Seton Hall with a team score of 596, +20.
The third and final round of play will tee-off on Sunday morning, March 15, at 8:00 a.m. PT.
