Falcons Flock South For Florida Tournament

Bowling Green, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University softball team will next compete in the USF-Under Armour Invitational in Clearwater, Fla., this weekend with games on March 6-8. The tournament will take place at the Eddie C. Moore Complex. The Falcons will then play Penn again on March 10 at 3 p.m., which is not a part of the tournament.
TOURNAMENT OPPONENTS
The Falcons' are scheduled to open the tournament with Penn on March 6 at 11:15 a.m. and Seton Hall (6-8) later that day at 4:15 p.m. On March 7, BG faces Villanova (3-6) at 11:15 a.m. and Maine (4-6) at 1:45 p.m. To close the weekend, the Orange and Brown face off against SIU-Edwardsville (10-4) at 9:00 a.m.

WHAT COACH SALSBURG IS SAYING
"We are looking forward to getting to Florida. The extra week off was beneficial but it is always disappointing to have games cancelled. We have a very unique challenge ahead of us as we face 11 different opponents in a 10-day span. Our trip will not only test where we are as a team but our mental preparation."
FAST START FALCONS
BGSU has scored 22 first inning runs through the team's first eight games of the season. The Falcons scored 13 at the Cleveland State Dome Tournament (Feb. 6-8), highlighted by 10 against Canisius in BG's third game of the tournament. Nine first inning runs were scored at the Cougar Classic two weekends ago.
LAST TIME OUT: COUGAR CLASSIC TOURNAMENT
Day One: The Falcons struck early on day one of the tournament (Feb. 20), erupting for a six-run first inning in a 6-1 defeat of Winthrop University.
Day Two: BGSU lost a close one to the University of Massachusetts on Feb. 21. UMass's walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh inning lifted them to a 7-6 victory over the Falcons. In game two of the day, host College of Charleston pulled away for a 7-2 win over the Orange and Brown.
Day Three: Pittsburgh defeated Bowling Green 9-0 in five innings on the final day of the Cougar Classic in South Carolina.
CC ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM
The host school announced the 2015 Cougar Classic All-Tournament Team, and two members of the Falcons were recognized. Junior Molly Holliday and sophomore Trista Mokienko were named to the team after going a combined 10-for-21 at the plate in the Falcons' four games at the tournament. Holliday led the Falcons with a .500 batting average in the four games. Mokienko hit .455 and led the Falcons with a slugging percentage of 1.000 in the four games.
CONFERENCE AWARDS
BGSU has received at least one MAC weekly award after each week of competition this season to date. Junior Braiden Dillow earned MAC Pitcher-of-the-Week honors three weeks ago following the Falcons' season-opening tournament at Cleveland State. Last week, Mokienko was named MAC Player of the Week, while senior Jamie Kertes earned MAC Pitcher-of-the-Week honors for the East Division.
PRESEASON POLL
BGSU was chosen to finish sixth in the Mid-American Conference East Division in the Softball preseason coaches poll, as announced Tuesday afternoon by the league offices. Defending MAC Champions Ohio University was tabbed to be the favorite in the East Division in 2015, receiving eight out of a possible 12 first place votes. Kent State was picked to finish second with two votes, and Akron and Buffalo each received one first place vote. The Zips and Bulls were chosen to finish third and fourth, respectively. Miami was picked to finish fifth in the East, followed by BGSU in sixth to round out the East.
